Re: Studio annoyance; venting! proceed with caution!

Sprectron has a good idea about only gating the toms. That's all I ever gate. Even at that, not very much. If you gate each mic to the point where all you can hear is that one drum, to me it just...

Re: I Think A Lot Of People Misjudge Buddy Rich

Buddy was a cat that had to work his ass off as a kid. I think that played a lot into the man. He could play amazing stuff because that's what wowed audiences, but that was just part of playing for...

Re: 14x24 and burying the beater

+1 what Caddy said about technique.

I used to be the worst at laying the beater in the head between hits. I ain't gonna lie, there wasn't an easy way of getting over that.

I've had to deal with...

Re: New Drummer Needs Help

Ah man, I actually bought a set of these when I was 14 because the guy that recorded everyone around here told me to. They sounded great in the garage because all of a suden my drums had this instant...

Re: tuning nightmare...

I feel your pain, man. As far as the "doom-wow" thing, and the flappy sound goes, I struggled with that for a long time, specifically my floor toms.

Like Larry said, the huge resonance is...

Re: Is it always the case when you join a group ...

I've been on both sides of the spectrum, being the guy joining a group that's been around, and being the guy in charge. And I've run into similar dilemmas as you. Lil background first. I'm from West...

Re: Alert! Drums Stolen!

My heart's out to you man. I'm sure those are worth more than the dollar amount to you. Hope you get them back really soon.

Maybe someone delivering pizza, or doing some work at your house...

Re: hurry, somebody get this

That's a really nice kit for the price. But I can't get over the finish. Black to tan? Really? Ugh.

Re: Need Help with a Project

Nice to see college education hoping to help the drumming world out. Count me in.

Good luck with your project, and thanks!

Re: Snare Beds

Snare beds aren't as mandatory as they used to be. Mose snares these days meet up with the strainer by way of some kind of strap. These are really thin, and help the snares sit evenly on the head.

Re: Painful Snare Drum Question

OK, I have to say, I really don't think this is a water damage kind of thing. I say that because the pics were taken with my iPhone, which means you guys can't see it as clearly as I do...

Re: Painful Snare Drum Question

Italians don't take people to court. That's about where that stands.

You're probably right about the delaminating. I have to try though. That's the snare I used on the first real honest-to-God...

Re: Painful Snare Drum Question

I wish I knew. I haven't seen the dude since the day I let him borrow it. His girl brought it to me a couple weeks after she dumped him and he moved away.

My theory is that it got put under...

Re: Painful Snare Drum Question

Larry's a believer!!!

The clamps and wood glue I can do! I'd rather try that before I do anything more extreme. I'll give Pete a message and see if he'd like to take a look.

I don't know ya,...

Re: Painful Snare Drum Question

Arrrrrrrg!!! I was afraid y'all'd say that. You all are probably right, but I'm not ready to give up on it yet. Now's a good time to join that woodworking forum I've always lurked on. Cept I've never...

Painful Snare Drum Question

Hello drummer friends. It makes me really sad to ask, but one of my favorite snare drums got damaged a few years ago when I loaned it semi-long-term to someone else. They have yet to find his body....

Re: Some recording help!

Hahaha, I think most all of us would. Just let me know when you get em and I'll be over to borrow a couple of those paltry leftover U87's.

Anyways, back to Cymbalrush's issue. First off, I'd try...

Re: Adding mufflers to my Ludwig set?

Whether you should or not is up for debate. I'd avoid the ball bat kind, but the screw-knob type tends to be a lot sturdier.

I'm not a fan of these, but vintage drum buffs still love them.

If...

Re: Help with playing triplets!

Good ole stick control!

Think of this as a measure of 4/4 where the LLRR is 1, and the two triplets are really played as a sextuplet. The way it's notated is kind of confusing. You can see there's...

Re: Bare Feet, Socks or Shoes?

I've seen people play barefoot, but I can't do it. Sooner or later that beater will hit the top of my foot, and that hurts like hell.

I always either play in my skate shoes (Adidas, Vans, etc.),...

Re: STICK CONTROL (george L stone) your experiences and suggestions

I don't know if anyone else has had this happen, but it's kind of a funny story. Eons and eons ago, back when I first started taking lessons, my drum teacher had me go out and get a copy of stick...

Re: DAW and VST

My favorite DAW is Cubase 5, but it helps to be comfortable in multiple softwares if you might find yourself in someone else's studio. Even though Cubase is all I use in my studio, I'll at least...

Re: Routines

Even though the others have covered the bases really well, what exactly are you trying to accomplish? Warming up with rudiments and such is always a great start. After that I tend to gear my practice...
