Re: Sorry Neil......Ringo and Paul has much more "feel" than you

To each his own, I guess.

To me, there's almost nothing worse than a live show that is a literal note for note album version fest. I can stream it for free(anywhere, anytime!) if I want to listen...

Re: Essential Tips For Playing Drums

And hey, after you read "essential" tip 4, here's a handy link to take drum lessons; you know, since it's "essential" for playing drums.

Re: What did these come from?

Is this lasko thing the go-to for drummers? I just opened a whole gear thread about it as I want a gig fan too.

Re: MB's Random Question Thread

I guess that's subjective. "Better" isn't the word I'd use. As you say, whatever floats that proverbial boat.

Re: MB's Random Question Thread

Yea, but that "tone" is pretty weird and not really related to the real sound of the drum so I guess I'm kind of indifferent.

For reference, I typically practice on an e-kit and about 60% of the...

Re: MB's Random Question Thread

In a few instances, I've seen people kill drums on purpose so they can have a dedicated practice kit like you're talking about. They basically just stuffed em full of stuff. Whole bedsheets in one...

Re: MB's Random Question Thread

Bonham's drum setup and sounds are more than well documented! Hit youtube.

Re: MB's Random Question Thread

Any examples of bass drum sounds you like? Live videos better than album examples. I want to stress that bass drums in particular sound way different after processing than in the room.

Honestly...

Re: MB's Random Question Thread

In my opinion, not noticeable in the same way as actually damping; restricting the vibration of the heads. I think it might cut some of the internal echo, but unless I'm recording in sensitive...

Re: MB's Random Question Thread

It needs to touch at least one of the heads or it will do almost nothing. You're not "soaking up" the sound, you're just preventing the heads from freely vibrating when you damp drums. Expirment...

Re: MB's Random Question Thread

Concert toms with dead bottom heads instead of no head(not just dead, designed to kill tone!). Big difference there.

Re: MB's Random Question Thread

In short, nope.

You need the relationship between the thinner bottom head and the heavier batter head to make a good note. Since the mute head will not vibrate freely by design, all it will do is...

Re: MB's Random Question Thread

I think you mean centered. It makes both pedals have the same feel and pull. Normally the "slave" pedal will feel just ever so slightly slower because of the physical distance and mechanical drag...

Re: MB's Random Question Thread

Guess I'm assuming you're researching for a purchase of drums. The answer remains the same... Aside from what I said in the most general terms, it would take entire books to explain all the...

Re: MB's Random Question Thread

This one you might actually want to do a search on. The answer is pretty complex and even changes with the material and type of hoop we're talking about. The harder, denser or more heavy a hoop is...

Re: Drumless backing tracks for training.

There's a whole bunch of them on this very site if you do a bit of digging!

Or I guess I can link them for ya'll lazy drummers.

Re: MB's Random Question Thread

Narrower the taller they are? You mean depth?

As a drum gets deeper, the air you're pushing when you excite the batter head has a lot farther to travel to get to the other head; the bigger around...

Re: Other than the obvious...

In extremely simplified terms, the same as a regular drum. The bigger the tub the louder and deeper the sound. I use my 24x18 in situations where other drums might be acoustically lost, and...

Re: guitars too loud, why?!!

In my opinion, with certain types of music, it pays off to use ear protection and be loud. It just sounds silly to play some of it at quiet volumes, and while I always try to spend a lot of time...

Re: If you want to humble yourself to improve

I have a little trouble sometimes if the tune wasn't recorded to a click and it's a "feel" track. In that case it sorta depends how "natural" the drummer's playing is to mine. When it's click music...

Re: We are the product of our influences

When I quote someone in written or even spoken form, I like to try and always give credit. With music, I can't make liner notes saying "this part inspired by X", and I get uncomfortable with the...

Re: guitars too loud, why?!!

Quite so! In the future you should state your own opinions about the art of other people in a less caustic and negative way.
