Re: New Drum Set

3 things I would go for on a kit for live use:

Quality
Lightweight to carry
Tom mount on bass drum

Also a finish that doesn't show scratches too easily. I just bought an acrylic kit like...

Re: Lady Gaga on the Oscars.

Maybe, but the music she is famous for sucks in my opinion. Give me Taylor swift or Katy perry over her any day.

Re: S****y albums done by great bands..

I cant decide if any of these bands are great but I kinda gave up on them when I listened to the following albums:

Red hot chilli peppers - californication (what a pile of crap)

Re: Does playing covers change you?

If you didn't like the songs - yeah probably.

I hate that "all about that bass song".. I realized when we had to play it 2 or 3 times in one night. If I felt that way about every song I'd throw in...

Re: Pork Pie Snares?

I agree, it's a silly name but I've grown to like that cute little pig.

The only pork pie I've tried was the 13x7 patina brass. Kinda wish I'd bought it. Awesome little drum.

Re: My drum teacher failed me.

Bit of both.

You sound like someone blaming their parents that their life didn't turn out the way they wanted.

Your teacher had a job to do but your development wasn't solely his...

Re: My drum teacher failed me.

I was going to be an astronaut but the teachers in school just didn't do enough to nurture my brilliance.

Re: Ever shown up to play with a new musician and realized it was a bad fit immediately?

No funny stories but I've jammed with a fair few ppl, few of which were fun to play with.

I persist with the jam, grin and bear it, be friendly (no need to be an arse) and avoid committing to any...

Re: Brand Loyalty

I think brand loyalty is a bit silly because in my assessment none of the brands really stand out as superior (having tried most) and I don't see a strong relationship between price and sound...

Re: Does playing covers change you?

I am feeling like I have changed for the better.

I finally downloaded the entire setlist and playing along is dominating my practice of late.

Gig wise I have passed the honeymoon phase and I'm...

Re: Jeff Porcaro Snap-Ups

Yes that's what Kroy has me doing. And there's also a focus on the position of your hands, where you hit the snare, where the stick comes back and rests. There's no fingers involved, which is a weird...

Re: How about a 22x13" ?

Looks cool.

Sound better?

Honestly mine didn't sound better, but it sounded okay.

The best part is it's easy to carry.

Re: Jeff Porcaro Snap-Ups

I had some video lessons with Kroy, he took me through some wrist stroke exercises to help develop snap ups and just wrist strength in general.

The JP video is definitely on YouTube, he sounds...

Re: Restoring hardware on an old kit

The tension rods spent the night submerged in coke...

They definitely came up a bit shinier.

Now I was wondering if I should just screw them back in or if they need some sort of...

Re: Kickport, does it really make a difference??

Granted I use more than just a little muffling - I put one of these on my sonor and I didn't notice any change.

I also had a 20x17 cut down to 20x13.. I acquired another 20x17 and realized I...

Re: Writing with the weak hand?

I knew a guy who did that and his entire hand fell off!

Then his wife left him, and he died of pneumonia.

Re: Thomas Pridgen - Applying Rudiments To The Drumset (Drumeo video)

I downloaded this and still watch it from time to time. He's great, if a bit wild at times. Def my favourite drumeo video.
