I find it's a combination of a little bit of everything.
Thinner shells and less dense wood will usually produce more resonance, as with heads as well. Also, some older kits had lighter hardware...

Ultimately up to taste of shell... The Renowns certainly seem to have much nicer hardware though. Iso mounts on the toms instead of being screwed into the shell, and they have rubber gaskets on the...

G2s on the top and bottom did the trick nicely. The 12x9 sounds especially good, nice and focused without being too dry, probably gonna keep 2 plys on both sides from now on.
