Re: I like cheap snares

We can't talk about "cheap" snares, unless we include the ULTIMATE cheap snare...the Ludwig Acrolite.Untill recently, they could be had used, for around 50 bucks US,and still can be at times.

Also if...

Re: Is live music dead?

I guess I'm just happy that I grew up in the decades that I did.At the time, there were bars a plenty, and basement bands a plenty, and you couldn't swing a dead cat, without live music being played,and...

Re: Drummers around 5'6" - What size drums do you have?

I've been playing around 50 years, and I've never heard of a hand up tom. They have always been mounted toms to me.Even the catalogs say mounted toms, and bass drums.Just my 2 cents.

Re: The first bar "settling in" period

I noticed it sometimes also.I guess it depends who counts the tune in.There were times my guitar player, for what ever reasom, wanted to count a song in,and it always seemed to start too fast,dispite...

Re: Question about older "new" Ludwig

You're right about the date stamp, but the serial number is pretty much useless, except for insurance purposes,to identify a stolen drum.Serial numbers are usless,as far as dating a drum, after...

Re: I HIT TO HARD

Here's an Idea. Those squarish looking things that the guitar players plug into, have a volume knob, that conviently goes from 1 to 10.Avail yourself of the cleverly designed feature, and turn the volume...

Re: Have You Heard of Brady Drums?

That kit in the video, was approx.7 K US.Their snare drums are mostly over 1 K.You need some deep pockets to buy a Brady Kit.But Like KISS says, they are VERY well known, and respected.

Re: Is live music dead?

I've been saying that for years.Younger players, with huge ego's to stroke,(Like 16 yo guitar "wizes" that go to guitar center and attempt to shred and amaze the whole place)will play for free....for...

Re: Old Ludwig's ????????

Now...this IS a hustle.The seller needs to get his eyes checked.That is a wrap,and not a paint.It's a faded red satin flame wrap.Not worth 1500.

Re: George Way Drum Co. ?

For the record,George was an innovator, but a lousy business man.Camco,at the time, was a hardware manufacturer, and didn't make drums. There was a hostile take over of the George Way drum company by...

Re: Snare Drum Tuning: The Neil Peart Sound

Take into account that Peart, before switching to DW,was playing a vintage Slingerland Artist model snare,5.5x14,with a steambent maple shell. He simply had it refinished to match every kit he...

Re: Over exuberance - a time & a place?

Considering the energy level of both the crowd and the tune, letting it rip,and doing the "big rock show" ending, was just perfect. You showed the audience what a good band, and a good drummer. sounds...

Re: Old Ludwig's ????????

Re: Q Drums Vs. DW

+1 ...Buy with your ears...play a set first. The Q drums, music and vocals played at the super bowl were pre recorded in a studio, and no doubt gated, mixed and EQ'd.Ludwig is also coming out with...

Re: Removing sharpie from Ludwig wrapped drum?

+1 ^ This.Lighter fluid will work, without damaging the wrap. The cotton ball won't fall apart like wet TP will.Mostenbackers grafitti remove might also do the trick.

Re: Acrolite - Snare Bed?

+ 1.Ludwig as well as Slingerland and some others, used the crimping method on all their metal drums,up to the early 60's or so.They then went to just a gradual ,but wider snare bed.On some drums...
