Re: Help in finding the 'perfect snare drum'

I can't comment on the 13" Craviotto's. But I've got a 5.5x14 that sounds amazing. Super sensitive. I honestly don't think you can go wrong with a Craviotto if you've got the money for it.

Re: Playing Jazz...

I believe you're talking about song form, yes?

You've kinda just got to feel it. Listen to the changes. Get to know the tunes you're playing. The melody should be running in your head as you're...

Re: My tiny...tiny kit.

I love playing with this kind of set-up. It really makes you focus on independence and being musical. In fact, I'm in a Hard Bop Lab thing right now. It's kind of like a session but with a "coach" or...

Re: smaller kits

That's my suggestion. That's exactly what I did. I built a tiny kit (7x10, 13x13 with a 13x16 bass drum). Volume is not a problem. Go to www.drumfoundry.com. You could get everything you need there....

Re: Your Greatest "AH-HA" Moment

My greatest ah-ha moment came from listening to recordings of our rehearsals.
I play in a boogaloo (soul-jazz) band. I was trying to do way too much.
Ah-ha! All I really have to do is lay down a...

Re: New Craviotto Snare

Mine had a Aquarian Modern Vintage head on it when I got it. Sounded too dead to me. Put on a Remo Coated Ambassador and now it sounds fantastic. I'd leave the snare wires on. Nothing wrong with 'em....

Anyone work with Glass Glitter before?

How hard is it to work with Glass Glitter? Some sites say it's brittle and breaks/tears easy. But I've also heard that it's not much more difficult than your regular sparkle or pearl wrap.
I'll be...
