Re: How to get rid of rust on rims?

I use Eagle One polish and a buffing wheel on my bench grinder.

Re: musical notation question

That's exactly it. The feel/time is going 1-2-3, 1-2-3, 1-2-3, 1-2-3 with a lovely triplet feel and you're going to stuff 4 notes into a space where musically they do not belong. Rhythmically it...

Re: musical notation question

And 6/8 (or 12/8) is a triplet feel counted in two and there is no natural way to write a 4-note 16th pattern in the beat.

So, I would write it as four 16th notes with a 4 over it. I haven't...

Re: 1975 - guess the drummer :)

I couldn't have told you that this was Simon Phillips. I could have told you it WASN'T Vinnie Colaiuta though. The year (1975) and location (London) don't work.

Re: Vinnie Colaiuta Technique Question

Chaffee (as I've heard it) said that giving the same material to both Steve Smith and Vinnie, that Steve had to work to get through the lessons and everything came naturally to Vinnie. This was from...

Re: Vinnie Colaiuta Technique Question

Is an example of what you mean at 1:39? It's just counting (metric modulation). Sounds like he's turning the triplet into an 8th note.

The bigger question is why you'd want to do this? Unless...

Re: Vinnie Colaiuta

I was out looking to see a) who was playing drums for Sting and b) if it was Vinnie, what he was using for equipment. Sting has (it appears) Vinnie and the drummer from the Symphonicities tour. ...

Re: Best 10 drum albums? How about the best 10 "live" drum albums?

I had the Main Squeeze album from Chuck Mangione. Live at the Hollywood Bowl had better versions of the Main Squeeze album.

Carlock is certainly good ;) but there's just something about Dennis...

Re: Best 10 drum albums? How about the best 10 "live" drum albums?

Correct but Dennis Chambers' playing is what does it for me.

Re: What is the difference of 3/4 and 6/8?

I wouldn't consider Color My World as 6/8 but rather 6/4. In fact, I wouldn't consider 1/2 the tunes on the Google list as 6/8 tunes. 6/8 implies a certain tempo which is quick and I'm counting it...

Re: What is the difference of 3/4 and 6/8?

Exactly. The difference is entirely the feel and tempo of the song. I could write the same pattern in three different time signatures, adjust the tempo and come up with the same drum pattern.

Re: groove vs chops?

I think the original question was pretty straight-forward. His question was easily definable.

Chops - Basically someone that could throw down an amazing solo. Technically proficient. There...

Re: groove vs chops?

You should listen to The Police more. Stewart Copeland most certainly can groove. Take into consideration it's Sting on bass and quick reggae. It's not the same as listening to Steve Jordan, but...

Re: Looking at a 2nd smaller kit

You buy small, shallow drums and that's exactly how they sound by themselves. There's no way an 18" will sound like a 22".

I don't know what your bass drum sounds like, but I could probably find...

Don't do it. The union is only in it for the union, not you. They don't provide gigs and they don't protect you. The only thing that is guaranteed is union dudes. If you don't believe me, go...

Re: Just how much DO drummers make?

There was a rumor years ago that Vinnie was paid somewhere around $1M - $1.5M for the Ten Summoner's tour.

Re: Please help determining value of these Recording Customs.

If I had to guess, this was originally a 7pc set with chrome snare. One tom was an add-on as was the piccolo snare.

I'm going to assume your goal is to sell the drums for maximum profit and...

Re: Anyone here a member of P.A.S.?

I was a member for a few years about 25-30 years ago. The organization didn't do much for me personally but I did enjoy Percussive Notes from time to time.

Re: Yamaha Recording Custom tom question...

I don't know if you're only going to be able to buy just the plates for the inside of the toms. The entire mount itself is relatively cheap for Yamaha. It is part MT-TT. You can find them all...

Duncan is living proof of that. He's been banned at least three times and he doesn't even hide his identity.

Re: Anyone on here watch The Voice?

I'm sure your friend is a good singer, so it's unfortunate that her fate was determined by a genre she doesn't sing well. On top of that, bad signing around her probably brought her down as well.
