Re: New Inde Snare Drums

I'm so down with the one that has a blue strata look. I like 'em a LOT.

Re: Good trade?

I would say good trade. The only Apollo I found on Reverb had a third tom and was going for $250 which was rather high considering the condition. Yours need a bit of work, so yeah, fair trade. Plus,...

Re: DW pedal on Facebook... How?

Backing over it with a tour bus is my guess.

Re: Is it a myth that certain drumming legends have an inimitable 'feel' on the kit?

All you have to do is look at YouTube. There's scads of incredibly talented drummers out there playing covers of other drummers, including famous name drummers playing tunes originated...

So many resources. Maybe a good start is this video.

Re: Good news & mini session report.

Keep on keeping on, brother. We all know that drumming keeps you young, and you are (still) living proof. Can't wait to hear the mixes.

Re: Next musical: "Little Shop Of Horrors"

Well, it's over, the drums are home, and I'm happy to say we sold out every night of the last five shows. Got some rave reviews from theater folks and musicians, including some who've played the show...

Re: My live playing sucks

Larry's "I" and "me" point is dead on. if all you're paying attention to is you, it's really easy to screw something up. The music should be propelling everyone forward and giving you something to...

Re: So that didn't end well

There's so many red flags in your OP that I thought it was a May Day parade for a moment there. Unfortunately, in order to find a prince of a bass player (or guitarist, or anyone for that matter)...

Re: How to set up your drums

Rack toms angled too far, and/or angled in a "Y" far apart (see every "Tom Angles" thread entry ever).

Re: Gear Sell Off, Best Way To Go About It

Unless you have a buyer in mind who wants exactly a certain setup with everything on it, break it up into shell packs (with or without hardware), snares, and cymbals. I'm going to buy a cymbal I want...

Re: Elvis - Suspicious Minds

If you think the studio version of "Minds" has some tempo things going on, watch it live (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wb0Jmy-JYbA). By the end of the song, Elvis has got the train just about...

Re: The ubiquitous LM400

I keep saying that between the Ludwig Standard and Heirloom lines, the Pearl Modern Utility line, and Tama's SLP offerings, it's a good time to be shopping for a snare between $150 and $350. Just...

Re: Before and after!

Improvement to my mind, nothing screams "cheap" like metal hoops (well, nothing except 6-lug bass drums). I agree, some snazzy glossy black hoops would look even better, but this isn't bad.

Re: Almost lost my cymbals

I have left stuff at a rehearsal before - most notably a mixer power cable - but I don't tend to leave things at gigs. I have a fairly set way of loading the car, with a place for everything and...

Re: When you fight the music, your instrument just sounds bad

The best bands I've been in have been tight, regardless of relative level of music talent. It's when you listen, lock in, and nothing feels like work. I know exactly what you mean.

I also know...

Re: Gig with a difference - mini report

Cold gigs are so horrible for everyone involved. One has to ask oneself if the audience is really enjoying it or just sticking it out due to band loyalty, venue loyalty, or because I paid ten quid at...

Re: Dunnett acrylic kit really worth $4000?

Short answer: No.

Long answer: No, acrylic is a kind of purpose-built gig drum, and those sizes - ewwww. Unless it was made by centaurs out of left-over rainbows and each shell was kissed by John...

Re: Next musical: "Little Shop Of Horrors"

I am using IEMs (as is my custom for any gig with any amplification), and keys 2 has headphones available since he is right next to me; sometimes he slips them on for upbeat numbers where I'm laying...

Re: The right tools for the job.

I used to be one of those huge kit guys. And if I'm honest, I do like to pull out the whole shell kit from time to time to putter around on. But since I got my Ludwig 4-piece, I've found it has been...

Re: Next musical: "Little Shop Of Horrors"

From yesterday's show, here's the full lineup in action. (The video I posted earlier has subs for winds and keys 2 missing.)

L-R: Angela (winds), Ted (guitar), Steve (bass), Anna (piano/MD), Brady...

Re: Next musical: "Little Shop Of Horrors"

It was a sold out crowd, and they were in the next room - which clues you in to how loud the applause was.

We've been having some real challenges with the space - the sound system is ancient, and...
