Re: My Bass Drum Is Bigger Than Yours

Damn!

I used to have a pair of 26's, until I realized my tom placement limitations...

Re: Teachers, do you force Crossed hands on beginners?

Show me an inexpensive remote hi-hat - that works. This is THE reason I didn't switch as a young drummer.

Re: Female Drummer Project/Questionnaire

Yes!

Exactly!

I also dislike when people try to qualify good female drummers, then post links to average drummers. This does not help make the distinction. To show the video of an...

Re: Drummers are athletes

lol All this stuff about how hard the drums are being hit...

I get the most tired when those double bass rhythms just don't slow down.

I feel like Flashdance, a MANIAC, I tell you!

Try...

Re: Can a mediocre drummer be a good teacher?

*edit: Maybe their is a whole lot more to this subject... One might ask - what does his new...

Holy hell. I figured he's been coaching since later last year, I had no idea your post was from 2012. My apologies.

Re: Can a mediocre drummer be a good teacher?

Stefan Edberg is slightly better than mediocre (compared to any tennis player in history). I don't this example really drives home your point as well as some may have perceived. In fact, it might...

Re: Using a pillow as a practice pad...do YOU do it?

Michael Phelps doesn't get indorsed to stretch either, but I bet he does it to help him swim more efficiently.

If it could help in ANY way, it is a help. Different people have different...

Re: Rock drummers are top athletes

I die almost every night I play a full show.

I'd suggest that some people move more than just fingers, wrists, and ankles.

Could my technique be more efficient? Sure. But that is a pretty...

Re: Attractive female drummers

Good responses, and great post!

A female drummer = novelty.

The looks get you in the door, the ability keeps you there. I'd find it interesting to see the percentage of clicks an attractive...

Re: Does Tom Angle inform the level of mediocrity of a drummer prior to ever seeing the drummer play

I don't think Nicko adds any weight to the counter argument. I'd suggest that, by today's standards, he is about average.

Re: Buying first kit, need advice on tom depth

I think they wouldn't be selling so many hyperdrives, if normal sizes were still offered in certain lines.

I prefer deeper toms (easier to tune lower, without having wider toms - able to place...

Best response EVER!

Love this attitude. Wish more people were this helpful.

Sometimes we get the 'agenda', and sometimes you get someone who is genuinely interested in helping others. Easy...

lol! I sometimes cramp while playing (usually due to activity right before drumming). I've cramped during a performance as well.

I just play through it, try to rub down between songs, change...

Re: Was Lars' double-bass on the track Dyers Eve a fraud?

Not really. It is frustrating because we have absolutely NO idea what was being attempted there. It was a small 20 second clip of something that could be part a 10 minute song that went perfectly. ...

Re: Was Lars' double-bass on the track Dyers Eve a fraud?

MANY people can play it. It is not that difficult.

But I do agree that many (of that time) measured drummers' ability to that song. It was One, first, and then Dyer's Eve. I got that question...

Re: Do drummers ever use a "personal" PA???

lol! Sometimes, the singer is what we hear most...

The key is balance. Some guys (who do the sound, or have input) just don't get it.

Re: Do drummers ever use a "personal" PA???

+1. It sounds like the venue doesn't have a sub.

OP- the biggest thing for me in small clubs - is the bass drum disappears when the guitars and/or vocals come out at FOH (Front Of House - or...
