Re: Are 13" toms obsolete?

My new favourite config is 10/13/16/22. That extra inch really makes a difference... :<o

Re: Please tell me what Premier drum kit this is.

The later version of this kit was known as the elite, the shell construction and hardware was the same- it differed by having the oval post twin tom tom holder, but is otherwise the same. A great set...

Re: Whats the weirdest thing you ever broke on your kit during a gig?

The flexor tendon in my right thumb! It went while I was setting up, tightening a cymbal stand joint as I remember.

Still finished the gig though- what a trooper! Got a bit of a slap from the...

Re: Premier 1026? Snare

Definitely steel, the standard snare that came with the APK- an excellent and underrated drum.

Re: This commodity of music

I think the other company was Stacatto?
I remember the 11" tama toms- artstar and granstar at the time I think, but I'm not sure there was a 9- but I could be wrong. A bit like the DW 23" bass drum?

Re: This commodity of music

After a kit is recorded and processed, I would defy anyone to tell what it was made of, who played it and what heads it had on it. The days where you could spot a player's playing on the radio before...

Re: Tilting the snare

I play matched grip and the snare is angles towards me a little. It means that when i mean to play a rimshot, I play a rimshot. I tried my snare flat before but found it hard on my wrists and too...

Re: Happy Birthday, Phil!

Given Phil's track record with the ladys, That just might be his dream, not Mary's....

Phil was my inspiration to start playing- you can spot his playing/sound at a mile in the dark, just so...

Re: How does Ludwig Keep Prices down?

Taking Andy's lead and looking at a broader perspective, I think drums these days in general are incredible value. I can remember back in the early 80's looking at an entry level shop own brand 5...

Re: Drums - the stage prop du jour (Grammies content)

I haven't seen any of the footage yet_it was during the night in the UK, but "Cut me some slack" winning a Grammy? Really? I love the Foos, I love Paul McCartney and Nirvana did it for me too, but...

Re: Ludwig's new Signet 105 drum line!

I can only agree. An American Ludwig for the price of a Chinese mid range kit= no brainer. Love the finishes too- the ebony reminds me of the Sonorlite in Grant's Music in Glasgow in 1983 that I...

Re: Peace DNA Maple Kit, $299

Back in the day when these were distributed in the UK, I had a set for 12 hours and when i found how poor they were, took them back and exchanged them for a Tama. never regretted it once. mine were...

Re: UK drummers - open question

From my perspective, getting bearing edges cut is too important to trust to someone you don't know. We've seen your instruments (and heard them) and we know that you can be trusted with our prize...

Re: Like to know what the forum thinks

I've heard it said that its the spaces inbetween the notes that are more important than the notes themselves, and it seems to me that Don Henley epitimises that approach.

Re: UK drummers - open question

I think it wouldn't go wrong as an add on to an existing business to support other activities, and if this was an add on to an existing named business with some standing then it might do quite well.

Re: advice on mapex black panther sledgehammer drum head?

If I have a head with lots of non sympathetic overtones, it's usually that i haven't got the tuning quite right. Check the lugs for even tension and try taking the tuning up 1/2 to 1 full turn and...

"You only get what you...

Andy, as usual an extremely well balances and self depreciating response.

I have to say though that this has affected how I view the forum. Regardless of how the opinion of Shemp was put forward,...

Re: Hihat flavours/accents - ignored in rock?

I struggle to play the robotic even hihats you talk about Andy. There is always a bit of to and fro in my playing. When I play 16ths there is usually an accent pattern that follows the bass line....
