+1 on all of the points above. Reaper works great and you can use any of the 3rd party community of software add ons (VI's, Effects, etc.) like you would with any pricier product. Reaper is not time...

1) The bulk of the (volunteer mostly) worship band drummers are young and inexperienced, overplay loudly and tend to create the general cloud of volume...

I believe WhoisTony is describing more of a jam night instead of open mic. There is usually a kit provided although bringing your own sticks is a good idea.

The open mics around here usually...

My vote is for the cymbal upgrade.

Unless - the camp is a once in a lifetime type. Just like there is gear that will always be there, there are a lot of 'drum days' and drum camp style experiences...
