Re: The Best Drummer in the World

Hey,I am not knocking it, If I could play like that I would, but a clinic is just showing off. Its look at all my chops. Just my opinion, but Thomas himself says he earns his money playing...

Re: Can you read sheet music?

Cant read music or drum notation, never wanted to. If a piece of music or a drummer inspires me its the flavour and texture of what they play that gets me. So, I try and get that flavour and texture...

Re: Notching out the character

Depends what angle you come at it from. Bermuda always comes from the hired gun side, ie, do what you are told, and in the session world thats fair enough. If you are recording your band in a...

Re: The Best Drummer in the World

My point was that he is famous for his drumming but earns a living playing simple beats. Meaning.....all his chops are for nothing, or clinics, which is basicly showing off. So you could argue that...

Re: Only6 months left to drum!!

As has been said, the baby adapts to the family not tother way round. You are the adult ergo you are in charge.

Re: The Best Drummer in the World

Not taking a pop here but it would seem from your answers to others posts that you covered everything in your video. So why the OP?

Re: The Best Drummer in the World

That would depend how you define intellegence. If they were the intelectuals of there era that would mean they were in the very top bracket intellegence wise. Bring them forward to today and there...

Re: Antiquing / Distressing drums and hardware

Why not just do what motorcyclists do if they want a "Rat" bike, ladle on the matt paint.

Re: The Best Drummer in the World

Apologies, but the title was best drummer in the world, and 20 mins is a long listen. They were my thoughts. If you covered everything, then we agree.

Thomas Lang, he of session and drum clinic...

Re: The Best Drummer in the World

Listend to the first few mins but I dont have time to hear it all.

My two pence.

Never even thought about "Best in the World". Personaly? If I am playing a part in what I consider to be a...

Re: How do you cue your live tempos at the gig?

A gig is a moment in time, in the truest sense, and the tempo may fluctuate to suit the occasion cos I treat itas art not science. I have seen lots of big acts over the last few years who played...

Re: How do you cue your live tempos at the gig?

While the singer is introducing the song, and the others are messing about, I sing the chorus to myself and get the tempo going in my head, sometimes tapping it out on the side of my leg. Job done.

Re: Antiquing / Distressing drums and hardware

You want a "real" road worn guitar? Look at some old shots of Rory Galagher, bet he spent more time playing than worrying if his gear looked beat up enough.

Re: I'm learning the Drums at 26

Age is meaningless. I played till I was 30, then gave up. I started again when I was 60 and I love it even more than I did back in the day, probably cos I now do it for pleasure rather than hoping...

Re: Acoustic Drums VS Electronic Drum Kits

You say that, but the cheap Yamaha pedal that came with my DTX has become my go to pedal. My Iron Cobra is now just a backup. I did swap the belt for a chain on the Yamaha but apart from that its...

Re: Antiquing / Distressing drums and hardware

I have never understood this desire. I was looking for a new guitar a few years back and could not understand why Gibson and Fender in particular were selling ranges of new gitars that were made to...

Re: Acoustic Drums VS Electronic Drum Kits

True. The E-kit manufacturers need to do more work on the H-H systems. There is no need for even the cheapest H-H system, even the seperate pedal and fixed trigger pad setup, to be so poor. The...

Re: Acoustic Drums VS Electronic Drum Kits

Again, it depends what you want. Rubber pads or mesh, mesh are a lot quieter than rubber. Unless you want to gig or record with it the sounds are not super important, I have a cheap Yamaha and the...
