Re: The sound guy

Me too! never had a problem and I always used the same mantra as you, basically treat others how you want to be treated.

The best way I've won over sound guys was by coming early and tuning the...

Re: Twisted Sister Drummer dies

I met him at club in Staten Island in the 80's - Billy O's. He got up on stage with the the band playing that night for a song or two - he tore it up! Great drummer and nice guy. RIP A.J. - he was...

Re: WERE DO I START??? *JAZZ DRUMMING*

This is the best advice I've read. period.

I've been down this road - the "hip infection" will usually go away if your roots and "musical" intentions are elsewhere.

Nowadays, the thought...

Re: Peart - would you hang out with him?

No, not at all, quite the opposite. I've read all his books and seen almost all of his interviews.

In his travels, he was simply a human being on a destination, a regular guy. I think you could...

Peart - would you hang out with him?

For those who may or may not have read his books and seen the interviews - would you hang out with him if you had the chance and why, or would you decline?

Curious to hear other people's...

Re: Neil Peart

Nah, that's a bit too general of a statement. You can criticize who you want, why not? It's your right.

But as I made a parallel story specific to what we do: if you're a drummer bashing another...

Re: Neil Peart

This may be a bit long

First, I really commend drummer-russ and mlf206 for the recent posts, it shows what real wisdom and a good attitude (in general) is all about.

As for those who have...

Re: Music recording using a chromebook laptop?

Excellent recommendation man! I remember trying to use Jack back in the early 2000's since I refuse to use Windows at home, and it was not friendly back then.

Times have changed and lots of...

Re: Music recording using a chromebook laptop?

You could also go the route of "hackintosh" (keep in mind that Mac OS is a still Linux) - I know a pro engineer who uses it on a large rig running pro-tools. In your case, you could get a decent...

Re: Tama Starclassic B/B pros - Need your help

Wow, nice catch man, thanks a lot! I never thought of it and it's a possibility - maybe it could it be due to the extreme weather changes we have had lately where I live/play? I'll look again.

Re: Tama Starclassic B/B pros - Need your help

Thanks for the tips guys, I appreciate it. I guess I'll take the heads off and use a clean cloth to see if there is anything coming from the shells or edges.

Before putting heads on for the first...

Tama Starclassic B/B pros - Need your help

Guys, I have a new Tama B/B that just gigged with it this weekend. The sound is amazing, it's a beauty etc, etc. However there is this orange/yellowish residue that is building up on the resonant...

Re: Who has to play to a click or backing track live?

For a side project that was Symphonic Metal, I had to play live & rehearsals with a click to keep the whole band in sync with pre-recorded Symphony instruments and Operatic backing vocals (click in...

Re: 2015 Drummies

Nice to see "Herb" get his due props. Some of the other votes, hmmm, but ok, you have to respect the process.

Re: "New" kit arrived damaged - need advice.

Get in their faces ASAP. This happened to me with a Tama kit, so I'll never do it again (any trade site). When it's advertized as new, you should get new.

Re: What Metaphors Do You Use in Your Playing?

The guitarist in my band came up with this one:

prison pounding!

He used that to describe the outro of one of our song that is a straight 16th note double bass beat, not too fast but played...

Re: Drummers who don't play/use a ride cymbal.

Tomas Haake ditched his years back, as well as 2 toms. He's more ergonomic now, more stacks and hi-hats.

Re: Rockstar > Swingstar?

Totally agree. The Silverstar is pretty amazing, I would have kept mine but I found a Starclassic B/B brand new & really cheap so I sold it. I really think the Silverstar is the leader of that price...

Re: Neil Peart

Hating on Neil P?

That is just so sad. I think you truly have to be a lifeless **epsilon-minus to waste time and energy on bashing someone who has accomplished so much and with good intentions....

Re: Why the hate? (Lars Ulrich)

Exactly.. On all points. The major point being "he was right" about the Napster issue and if more people joined the cause maybe original artists would have better control over their music. I'm...

Re: Neil Peart

Well put man! Excellent point!

Each of the greats has a concentrated strength or mastery and we recognize them for it, so no one should really compare them based on one or many parameters. Going...

Re: end of guitar centre?

It makes me wish there was a Steve Maxwell's in Central Jersey. Given the lower operating overhead than NY and Chicago, I think they would do well - there are lots of people who appreciate a quality...

Re: Attention Tune-Bot Owners!

Dennis is right, it won't affect the tunebot. I actually tuned a piece of crap Backline kit at a loud Metal club while the soundguy had music blasting. I made this POS Pearl sound amazing, even the...
