Re: Rant: Who's in charge at Gibraltar??

Agreed ;) ;) ;)

Oh yes, it's good sport ;) Actually, Spain should remember that our net contribution to the EU pot almost exactly replicates their net receipts from the same pot. GET OFF OUR...

Re: Annoyed and disappointed with myself

I'm not sure I should repeat my adolescent canine related advice "tag line" to Madge for fear of being misunderstood ;)

Re: Anyone prefer standard depth?

Depth has almost nothing to do with out & out volume. For fear of repeating myself, every design element of a drum needs to come together to dictate the instrument characteristics. Depth is just...

Re: Keller Maple Shells

It would absolutely be a solid shell drum, or more accurately, drums. As for make, I'd probably ask one of the high quality builders to make to order. I'd always have at least one thin shell...

Re: Keller Maple Shells

No problem :) The Prolite drums are great, in fact, if I was to play a ply kit, it would probably be a thin shell Sonor :) Snares however = different story. Luckily, I don't have to make choices...

Re: Annoyed and disappointed with myself

Is that because, after hearing you play two weeks ago, 1,000 people boycotted your gig last Saturday - just saying ;0 ;0 ;0

Re: Keller Maple Shells

It's not so much the glue element (personally, I think glue contribution is overstated by many solid shell builders, although it does have an affect), it's more that such thin "veneers" effectively...

Re: Rant: Who's in charge at Gibraltar??

YES! Might shortly exclude Scotland though :( Surely Gibraltar must be THE premier location for a rock festival (again, primarily to annoy the Spanish).

Re: The body-snatchers

Sorry Abe, I'm unqualified on all counts, but I do occasionally slip into something then recognise it's origins :)

Re: Annoyed and disappointed with myself

Ok, a few points:

- shit gig, it happens, move on. Find better ones.

- was the band too loud in relation to your drums? Audibility of unmic'd acoustic drums can be down to many issues. Sure,...

Re: IMPERIAL CYMBALS RIPPED US OFF!!!

Any chance of a link to the rat's page?

A very useful heads up there for sure. If those names surface, after verifying ownership, we'll sure post up a nice "promotional" feature & make sure it...

Re: an epiphany

Useful for nesting drums too, but only works on poplar shells. Basswood shells contain a highly territorial anti spooning beetle that rattles in annoyance. This is why John Good first got into...

Re: Anger, dismay and confusion

Larry, I didn't need to record my band rehearsal last night to know I sucked royally in places. My poor playing moments were mainly due to concentrating on other elements of the band's performance...

Re: Keller Maple Shells

Depends on what I wanted to achieve, & would only consider the choice as part of an overall design. It's but one element, & in isolation, close to meaningless.

In very general terms (I'm assuming...

Re: Drummers that can't tune drums.

Not really. Although impractical sometimes, place your ear in the position of the mic & strike the drum. Of course, use some common sense re: ear damage. The sound you'll hear is very different to...

Re: Drummers that can't tune drums.

In a live reinforcement situation, & especially if the engineer is driving most of the sound from the close mic's, then yes. If overhead involvement is much greater, then overall instrument sound...

Re: Are our ears tuned to tradition?

Absolutely! I'm not sure what's brought this about, I'm guessing just the sheer mass of material you can reference instantly today, but I love the fact that younger players are embracing such a wide...

Re: Rant: Who's in charge at Gibraltar??

In straight engineering terms, that's a neat design in the making. If only it had a second roller on the back of the beater arm such that separation of the arm & pedal plate was impossible, it could...

Re: IMPERIAL CYMBALS RIPPED US OFF!!!

Exactly, what goes around, comes around. I hope that applies to the nasty vermin at Imperial! (It's rare for me to be outright accusational without independently verified information, but I think...

Re: Possibly something special?

Absolutely special on a number of fronts!

First up, good decision on the ear defenders for both of your girls :)

At such a tender age, just her level of confidence alone is something different....

Re: Drummers that can't tune drums.

In the context of my post, the sound you hear at some distance from the drum when all the elements converge into a single "voice", rather than the bias associated with just the top head, or the...

Re: Drummers that can't tune drums.

Not really Larry, although it does remove the need to "project".

Actually, I hear the term projection used often, but it commonly refers to higher end cut / head slap, rarely projection of tone. ...

Re: IMPERIAL CYMBALS RIPPED US OFF!!!

How's this for a complete opposite to Imperial's scurrilous greed driven scumbagness! Way to go Wombat - you're a good sort :)
