Re: How to do mute a cymbal roll?

I'm assuming it's a suspended cymbal roll, so just finish rolling on the first beat of that bar (I.e., the downbeat should be your last stroke), and grab it with your hand immediately on the second...

Re: Randal Stoll

Sorry to revive an old thread, but I just noticed this. Randall's an amazing drummer from Vancouver, I've had the privilege to work with him many times, most recently last night with the Marcus...

Re: George Way

I just picked up one of these ("The Studio" WMP, 4 ply maple shell, reinforcement rings 6 1/2 x 14 - not sure I'd this is the one you're talking about) on sale for $280, which Ithought was too good...

Re: Buying A New Drumkit

Give the Tama Starclassic Bubinga or Birch/Bubinga a listen, they're fantastic sounding drums for the price. If you're dead set on buying new, I'd try them, or the Gretsch Renown even. There aren't...

Re: Gretsch Kit, should I buy?

Very strange sizes on the kit,but if that's what you like, go for it. Most drummer won't want drums in those sizes though, bear that in mind, and make sure you play them and try tuning them before...

Re: easy way to record drums?

I gotta agree with the others, Handy Recders are amazing mics. I've got several H2s and they're fantastic for the price.

Re: Refinishing drums, NO EXPERIENCE

You can paint directly on the wood with standard paint if you don't want the lacquer finish, otherwise as mentioned you'll need to put on several coats of lacquer or clear. If you're set against...

Re: Just did my first recording session.

Its a totally different atmosphere in a studio eh? Glad it came together well though! Recording yourself shows all the tiny mistakes, I remember when I was recording some marimba solos I kept hearing...

Re: Does this sound like a good kit to go for?

Looks like a good setup, the Gretsch's a great kit. My mate used to have one, its not the most versatile kit but for rock or anything that needs that deep Bonham-like sound in that price range its a...

Re: Starclassic maple with badges?

I'll get some up on wednesday, when I see it next. It may well be a wrap, its been quite a while since I've taken a look at it, its definitely has wood grain visible on it, natural or not I'm not...
