Re: Buddy Rich

Buddy Rich is a great drummer, probably the best ever. Superb to watch and listen to.
I would not have wanted to work for Buddy. Even if I played sax in his big band, and he didn't bawl me out, I...

Re: Bass drum and double hitting

Do you bury the beater or let it rebound? Ported or unported head? This is more common unported.
Letting the beater come off avoids double-hits. So its technique but also higher spring tension...

Re: Musically, what are you involved with at the present?

It is not metal with acoustic guitars and birkenstocks.
It is metal... but they all dress like trolls.....literally

Re: Are our ears tuned to tradition?

Re: How do you feel about buying used records?

Bob Lefsetz and others write about this all the time. The younger generation does not need to physically own, like the past generations. They will care less about owning houses, cars, software...

Re: Tastes changed overnight

'Taste' drives the world, of commerce at least.
Yes nothing like and Amb, old tried and true.
Do you record every gig and play it back Larry? If so you must be very in tune with everything your...

Re: Applications for 13" tom

The real deal is 13-16-22. Behold the 13, embrace it. Learn its power and place, lol

Keep the 13 and use the 12 for something else, like make a bass drum sub mic, or give it to a kid who is...

Re: played (maybe joined) in blues band

There are many shuffles, an entire lexicon depending on who you speak to. I'm no expert. Many experts on here so hope Larry and others weigh in.

For years I struggled with the shuffle but got...

Re: played (maybe joined) in blues band

No apology needed, its an obvious question.
Well, dunno, maybe just try to stay in both bands. The classic rock band needs to rehearse way more, tighten up, but I seem to be the only one who sees it...

Re: played (maybe joined) in blues band

Interesting variations, I kinda get what you mean by the 'stomp' but a couple song examples might help put words to styles.

Re: played (maybe joined) in blues band

Re: played (maybe joined) in blues band

so No drum solo or grand finale for you then!?

Quite frankly, Charlie Watts gets a lot of flack on here for his stoic nature, no emotion or flair behind the kit, but I love it, and he's steady as...

Re: played (maybe joined) in blues band

thanks Larry, Jon, Andy for all the tips and encouragement. Being first time out, I was really trying hard to have no frills.... at all, but yes every time I mixed it in, and 'tried some chops' even...

played (maybe joined) in blues band

I play weekly in a 70's 80's classic rock band but was looking to broaden horizons. Placed an ad and this blues trio wanted a drummer.

Went out last night. I had to bone up on various shuffles for...

Re: Ringo's Drumming: Harder Than It Looks

Agreed. Not just burn on Ringo, but flame over him.

really these Ringo threads are kind of like bad highway car accidents. As you slowly drive by you don't want to gawk at the scene, but somehow...

Re: Audio only snare drum comparison between...

Why?
I'm not sure why people doubt the power of subconscious. My point was that by knowing which was which it could colour the outcome and I think it did.
I happened to like the Guru more, but my...

Re: Audio only snare drum comparison between...

Then you are the most unique, bias-free person.
But then again you've confused me by stating later on above that "its all so subjective"

By the way Andy, in my example did not mean to imply the...

Re: Audio only snare drum comparison between...

Without a doubt, bias entered into the view of all listeners simply because Larry told us the identity of snare A and B up front. And one was even the 'holy grail' BB. Sure they were mic'ed and tuned...

Re: New Gretsch 3 ply Broadkaster line

Hilarious....yes I think you do need one for sure.

They look great. I always liked the Broadcaster 'look', right down to the logo. It really stands out as a different kind of Gretsch.
