Re: Any word on the new Yamaha stuff, yet?

Yeah, I was kind of surprised they have nothing…
I wonder how sales of Hybrid kits re going - not well from what I can see locally, and a few places online - but that's not indicative of anything.

Re: Any word on the new Yamaha stuff, yet?

OK, I think it's safe to say now. It's Sergio Garcia.
Yes he can golf - but not many know the hot-headed Spaniard is also a great drum designer.

Re: Yamaha Rydeen Jazz Kit potential purchase

I currently own a Rydeen Jazz set and I've owned the set pictured. Those are the standard setup with 10/12/14/22 or 20 and a matching 14 snare. The Rydeen Jazz is 10" tom, 13" floor tom, 18" bass...

Re: Any word on the new Yamaha stuff, yet?

I'm saying there will be….and there will be a certain drummer with the initials SG heavily involved in the new design.

I guess we'll find out on Thursday...

Re: Dear custom drum builders...

Yes, totally agree. The only thing I don't like about Craviotto drums. It's cool to have Johnny sign each drum - but does it have to be so large? It's ugly.

I saw one that Steve Maxwell's was...

Re: 12x10 Tom

No no and no.
No.

Pros:
None except maybe looking like you belong in an 80's hair metal band

Cons
Looks dumb
Might as well be a concert tom, the resonant head is too far away
Is not...

Re: new offerings from Craviotto

Nice! I could see myself driving a set of those.
Really like the sizes.

Re: Yamaha Drums

Vintage D20 kit has landed!!
1969 kit in Red Pine wrap, 12x8,14x14,20x14,14x5.
In dead mint condition - hard to believe they are 45 years old. I was laughing while cleaning them up, they are in...

Re: Yamaha Drums

Actually, just figured out, the ratio of depth to diameter is 1.56 : 1 for the 10" and 1.54 for the 12" drum. That's pretty close to the Golden Ratio of 1.61. Hmmm….

Re: Yamaha Drums

Thanks! I just deferred to my drum restoration guy...the depths have something to do with having enough room to clear the old holes from lugs, mounts and /or vents. I do think the resulting depths...

Ah yes, and now the other news…my vintage D20 kit is on the way here, should have them in about a week.

And lastly…I think next on the chopping block is going to be these. BCAN in White Marine...

Re: Yamaha Drums

Well, lots of Yamaha news over here.
First up, my BCA Cherry Wood toms (with stained interiors) were cut down today…went from a 10x9 and a 12x10 to a boutique 10" x6 3/8" and 12" x 7 3/4" . I will...

Re: Sold my stage customs, looking for mid range maple kit

Even though I'm a Yamaha guy through and through- I have to cast another vote for Gretsch Renown Maple. Build quality and sound absolutely blows me away every time I play them or hear them. New...

Re: DW and Gretsch

I don't think anything will change. As others have said, you may not like DW drums - but John Good isn't an idiot; passionate, an extremely successful businessman in this area, a drummer. Better...

Re: It Happened Again!!

That's weird. Must have been a really old one. I'm lucky to be old enough to have worked with many Studer tape machines - 2/4/8/16 and 24 track, from 1/4" to 2" tape - and every one of them had...

Re: Am I a freak for not liking virgin bass drums?

Oh yeah, actual paint. I don't know why I thought sand.
What a bloody mess that would be if the top were to come off…
How would that effect the resonance of your bass drum ?

Re: Am I a freak for not liking virgin bass drums?

Agree with all the above, 100%.

The thing about the bass drum feeling more solid (and sounding more solid) goes to adding mass. Same reason Simon Phillips puts bricks and paint cans full of sand...

Re: Drummers who play other instruments also....

Yes, agree with all the insight given above. I am a drummer first but I have been playing guitar for 30 years and play well enough that I can actually call myself a guitar player, not just "a drummer...

Yes, great idea Uncle Lar!
I think this thread should be a sticky too...and I hope more local lurkers get to using it. Many uses for this thread!

Re: Recording from soundboard?

Just a word of caution with making stereo "board recordings" at live gigs - often, you end up with what might be described as a "kick drum and vocal concert" on tape.
The thing to remember is that...
