Re: New DW Kit, worth it?

Just to clarify: I made up my mind so quick because I called a different store and found the same kit for $450 less! The Chicago store sold me this kit for $2450 shipped whereas the Knoxville store...

New DW Kit, worth it?

So I have my nice Pearl Masters kit for sale and am hoping to replace it with some DW Collector's. I prefer the lower/deeper DW sound and frankly, really just like the whole brand. I was shopping...

Re: Timeless wrap finishes.

Great reply Caddy, thanks! You're right about the distinction between "timeless" and "versatile." At the same time, there are some finishes that I feel like are pigeonholed into a certain...

Timeless wrap finishes.

Hey guys, I'm looking at new kits and as much as I think lacquer kits are beautiful, I really appreciate not worrying as much about a wrap finish when I'm playing out. Hence, part of my decision to...

Re: Is this a good beginner kit? (link)

It's missing the Floor Tom hoop and head and also the bass/kick reso hoop and head. The floor tom is an 8-lug and this hoop will do nicely: ...

Re: Anyone for a fight? Yamaha fans :)

I do think Jordan leaving Yammie is a big deal. He, Weckl and Gadd are arguably the biggest "Face" of Yamaha. It would be like Dennis Chambers leaving Pearl. We're talking about a 30+ year...

Re: Anyone for a fight? Yamaha fans :)

Both are attempts to copy vintage drums, chief. Sakae is a Gretsch knockoff, the Club Custom...well, Luan by any other name is still Luan (stencils).

And as a follow-up to the SJ thing, Sakae even has their version of the Club Custom: http://www.sakaedrums.com/en/products/trilogy.php

Re: DW Collectors - Insight Please?

I've owned two DW Collector's kits in the past because they were "dream kits".

Pshh, whatever man. I guess some guys like it. I couldn't really get down with it. I'm now playing a Pearl Masters...

Re: Bass Drum: Pillow, or no pillow?

Not really, I just thought it was a funny response. I prefer to tune my drums correctly and do my best not to use any muffling unless called for by the sound man. However, a muffled bass drum is...

Re: Bass Drum: Pillow, or no pillow?

Yeah, it's similar, but nowhere near the amount (all the way around the heads like the Dead Ringers). Here's a pic where you can sort of see it in my Pearl MCX kit @ church:

Re: Bass Drum: Pillow, or no pillow?

If you're working your band in a bunch of different venues, you need to be easy to work with. A sound man is there to do his job just like you are. Now, you can piss him off and he can make you sound...

Re: Worst mistake you've ever made during a gig ;)

HS jazz band I had been listening to a bunch of odd-time stuff. I was supposed to count off the tune (in 4/4) and play a couple bars of time before the band came in. Well, I kicked us off alright,...

I REALLY enjoy Stuart's playing in the early 80's with the Police, but the two performance videos posted of him here are horrible. He is probably focusing a lot more on composing nowadays, but...
