Re: Buying First Drum Kit

Used cymbals are fine as long as they don't have any cracks. You can usually find quality used cymbals used for half of what they would cost new. Check Craigslist and eBay. don't be in a real hurry...

Re: Pearl World Series .. question!

The World drum series was a mid-level line one step up from the Exports. The rack is probably worth $200-250-ish. If the drums are in good condition and sound good to you, I guess they are worth $600...

Re: Are 13" toms obsolete?

I still regret not getting a 16x18 floor tom to go with my mahogany/birch Starclassic kit.
The next kit will be a 9 pc. because you just never know.....

Re: Newest tools

The drums look very nice. It take it that you are a lefty, but I cannot get my brain wrapped around how I would play a kit set up like that. One of the most unique setups I've seen in quite a while.

Re: Where do all the drum sets go?

I keep looking for all the big 7-9-10 pc. double bass kits that were sold in the 70's-90's. They seem to never show up on CL or at GC or a local drum shop. I guess most of them have been hacked down...

Re: Are 13" toms obsolete?

I'm waiting for power toms and hanging floor toms to make a comeback:D

Re: Are 13" toms obsolete?

When I started playing (late 80's-early 90's) most basic sets came 12-13-16. Now they are 10-12-16 or 10-12-14. Maybe a lot of drummers feel that it easier to space out the tuning, or maybe drum...

Re: THE CLASSIFIEDS - For Sale / Wanted

Got a few Zildjians for sale, click on links for pics and descriptions. We can figure out shipping for non-local buyers. Probably 10-15 bucks each or so.

Re: It is your band, who do you pick for lead singer?

I'd add him (mid-80's era) just for the chicks he'd bring back to the tour bus, lol. The lead singer's job isn't just singing, he also needs to be a good front man, which I think Vince did pretty...

Re: Drum Workshop Worth The Cash?

Just found this thread and I figure I'd give my two cents/beat this dead horse for a minute or two.
Last week, I stopped by the local Guitar Center to hear in person a cymbal I was thinking about...

Re: It is your band, who do you pick for lead singer?

If Axl was my lead singer, he'd have one of my drumstick shoved in one ear and out the other from the crap he has pulled on his fellow Gunners through the years.

Re: It is your band, who do you pick for lead singer?

All my choices are assuming these singers are in their prime... not necessarily today's version:
1. Ozzy
2. Vince Neil
3. Bruce Dickenson
4. James Hetfield
5. Rob Halford

Re: Drumming pain

If you're breaking sticks in them in the middle after a few hours, you have the wrong technique or the wrong size sticks or both. Try some heavier sticks so you don't have to hammer down the rimshots...

Re: Playing metal covers, is it even possible?

You sound pretty good for playing only 6 months. Don't expect to be able to play note for note with someone who has been playing for years or decades. I've played basketball for more than 6 months...

Re: Your Holy Grail

Ludwig Classic 6pc. Just like the picture below except in a natural maple finish. I'd also want the bass drum to be virgin, and the toms mounted on a double stand in front of the snare.
I had one...

Re: Snares vs cymbals

I'm more of a cymbal guy than a snare guy. 13 cymbals (7crash, 2 rides, 2hh, 1 china, 1 splash) and 1 snare 6.5x14 brass Tama that I have never been too happy with. I'd like to have a few more pies,...

Re: My humble take on good drummers and OK drummers

I assume you also think the Mona Lisa would look much better if it was just a black and white sketch on the back of a cocktail napkin. Within the context and style of music you play, more drums,...

Re: What's the worst kit you've had to play on?

One of my friends had a Gretch Blackhawk kit (the one from the Sears catalog, late 80's-ish). What a POS. My used $200 Percussion Plus kit sounded like Ludwig Classics compared to this. When his...

Re: Do You Like Metal Snares?

I love my 6.5x14 brass Tama snare with coated powerstroke3/amb heads.

I'd trade it in a heartbeat for another 402.

Re: How far do you take air drumming in your car?

I don't air drum, but I'm tapping the hell out of the steering wheel. Left foot controls the bass drum.

Re: (possible) technical drum riser question

Many years ago (1995), my beloved 9pc. Ludwig kit became a victim of a leaky basement. The bass drums spent several hours in 6 inches of backed up storm water. When they dries, the shells...

Knocking off the rust...

Here is my situation:
I'm 38, started playing drums when I was 12. Due to living conditions, work conditions, blah, blah, blah, I've probably logged less than 40 hours of drumming in the past 4...
