Re: If you only had the bare minimum to practice...

It's as if I need to pick the least detrimental option before me... I've gone from being a High School drumline captain playing drumset every day of the week and always finding new people to jam/gig...

Re: If you only had the bare minimum to practice...

I'm going to try to see if I can either get lessons from one of my percussion studio buddies, or from one of the music professors. I'm hesitant to spend the amount of money a music major spends for...

Re: If you only had the bare minimum to practice...

Hand technique on a pad? Or drumset-centric techniques, like coordination or foot control?

Regarding rudiments, are you more inclined to play paradiddles for hours, or use more rudimental...

If you only had the bare minimum to practice...

Hello all, it's been a while since I've posted here.

My question for everyone is: If you only had small amounts of time to focus either on drumset technique or just working on your hands, what...

Advice on Drumline auditions?

So, fellow Drummerworld members, I'm in a bit of a conundrum that I would like to hear opinions on. I'm a recently graduated Drumline Captain from my High School. I loved my time on the line, but I...

Re: Marching Band Question

Bass drum is a truly difficult instrument, it's a shame many people don't recognize that. Bass works your mind more than your hands. Being 2 means that he'll be on second bass, the second smallest...

Re: Drum Line Snare Technique.

The way we get taught at my school is a "levers" approach. The initial stroke for doubles comes from the elbow lever, gets applied to the stick via appropriate fulcrum use, and controlled into two...

Re: Which is the best set???

Personally I would favor the Mapex, great quality and generally great bang for your buck (especially if it comes with one of those black panther add on snares).

Although I'm very satisfied with MY...

Building A Cajon...

So I searched through threads looking for definitive info on this subject but couldn't really find much...

I've decided to try my hand at building a cajon, seeing as cajones are fun instruments...

Re: Marching Season!!

We've worked our way through the whole show, probably start drill next week I think.
I'm the section leader for snares, and we've got 5 snares, 4 basses, 2 tenors, and a reeeeeeaally big pit.

Our...

So, what exactly designates a person as a grade 1, grade 2, etc?

Re: Bad idea? Or...

Depending on exactly how much you want to do, I might opt for a woodburning pen. Less risk of setting the drum on fire. And I'd go for some kind of basic stain. Or maybe just a clear coat, if the...

Re: Decision, help me out

I believe the only difference is the nouveau lugs, which many have expressed dislike for. But I could be wrong, there could be other things about the nouveau.

Re: Just got a new JC signature snare....

Actually, his drumming on that song on the Guitar Center Fresh Cuts CD (can't remember the track name right now) is a lot different than what I've heard from him before. Almost Danny Carey-ish. But...

If your teacher told you...

That he could give you 2-3 lessons on ANYTHING, what would you ask?
I ask because this is exactly what my teacher told me this week. You see, in our high school band (and many others, I would...

Re: Stage presence

Very true.
And like many others said (just summing up and reiterating here), showmanship is about making a connection with the audience and showing emotion. So let the music move you!

As far as...

Re: How big is your bald spot?

Mine's between a B and a C. You know, everyone's been saying that small spots indicate consistency and large spots indicate getting various sounds out of the drum, so shouldn't a "good" snare head...

Re: If you could cop the skills of any five drummers...

A valid point, one that many seem to miss. However, to take the post literally, we're talking about skills/playing ability here. So, my five would be:

1. Dave Weckl
2. Danny Carey
3. Gavin...

Re: Gretsch Renown Maple vrs Pearl Masters MCX

Good idea. Set up a plain, honest pros vs cons list and list everything that would factor into the new kit (mind you, make sure price comes LAST since the prices are that close).

For instance, do...

Re: Your Drum Instructor's Kit

My old teacher had a Yamaha Maple Absolute that he got cheap as a shell pack, with various Zildjian Cymbals (mostly Avedis's)

I have no idea what my current teacher plays because I've never played...

"Lignum drums are made using a unique approach to the ‘stave construction’ method. Whilst most stave shells are made by gluing solid wood blocks together, Lignum uses a special...

Went to a Bozzio clinic last night (12/17)...

And thought I'd give a short report about it. Overall, I was very impressed with Terry's performance. Sure, the first half of the clinic or so was pretty repetitive with sporadic tom rolls over...
