I've seen that Set Fast stuff before, but still $17 per stand? I have 9 stands, and I don't have $153... $.75 tape looks like a good alternative to me..

I 100% agree with all of this.

Straight beats get annoying in a song... Imagine some of your favorite songs without some of the cool fills in them... One that comes to mind immediately is Zepp's...

I've actually tried that before, just a bass, snare and hi-hats. It's very interesting to see what you can do with it, and its a really good way to work on your time-keeping without the temptations...

cupcrazy, try ebay.com or craigslist.com if you want to look for used kits. I'd buy new heads for now though.
