Re: Identifying Pacific Drum-kit!

Well, Jon Dewey from DW replied to my message describing that the kit was part of the first generation of the CX series from Taiwan. However, he says that they are all maple shells, not composite,...

Re: Question on PDP X7

I think the price also has something to do with the actual quality of the maple shell used in the drum-kit.

I must admit that I haven't run into a maple PDP x7 kit, but I have tried a Gretsch...

Re: Mapex Saturn vs Yamaha recording custom

I'd go with the Mapex Saturn because that maple/walnut shell really gives such a wonderful tone to the drums.

Re: Identifying Pacific Drum-kit!

Cheers mate, it's a start.

Any estimates of the time-frame when the kit was produced?

Identifying Pacific Drum-kit!

Hey, I was wondering if anyone could help me identify a kit for me. It's a silver pacific kit (when it was still called Pacific Drums and Percussion), but I have absolutely no idea what type of wood...

Re: Looking at a new drum set - Pearl Masters MCX or PDP Platinum

I don't think the Platinum Series by PDP should be completely ruled out though. I've played on a couple of PDP Plat kits and I thought that they were fair game for the high end maple kits.

Re: Suggestions for a solid gigging kit?...

I've been hearing a lot about drum-kits made from ash. What sort of sound and attack does that have? I'm only really used to Mahogany, Birch and Maple.

Suggestions for a solid gigging kit?...

Yo guys, I'm thinking about buying a new kit, preferably out of maple. I want a kit that's got a reasonably good sound which is versatile from playing hard rock to the softer stuff, but which doesn't...

Re: Chris Adler here!

Chris Adler's 24" ride is the most awesome metal ride in existence. I can really dig how he uses that to rip your head off.

Re: Gavin Harrison here!

G'day from down under Gavin, I can really dig some of the stuff you've done in both of your DVDs.

Thanks for drumming and sharing some of your really good groove around.

Re: Jojo Mayer

Man, I'd love to have Jojo's hand technique.

Kudos to him for making such an awesome drum DVD (Secret Weapons for the Modern Drummer) as well as his brilliant performance for the 2005 MD Festival.

Re: Mike Portnoy

Mike Portnoy has got the bass-drumming co-ordination thing down pat. Certainly one of the best metal/rock drummers of our time.

Man, I'm envious of his big kit, and the fact that he can play under...

Re: The legendary Steve Gadd.

Cheers, mate.

I'm sorry if I'm offending you guys, but that's my honest opinion of him; I honestly don't think he is the be-all-end-all of session drummers. There are other groovers out there in...

x2 on that opinion; awesome magazine. If you're into behind the average mainstream drummers, this is the magazine for you!

Re: Jack DeJohnette

An extremely innovative drummer. I especially enjoy his earlier Fusion with Miles and New Directions.

I haven't seen his modern stuff where he makes use of his larger kit (and those tonal bells),...

Re: The legendary Steve Gadd.

I agree with you there. He's a bit overrated compared to other drummers I'm hearing out there these days. But indeed, he's got the groove, and I can admire him for that.

I suppose the beautiful...

Re: Steve Smith

Technically, he is a very proficient drummer, and a very good musician.

I'm glad that he's going to be tipping his hat off to the jazz greats through his new DVD Drum Legacy.

Re: Virgil Donati

Easily one of my favorite drummers, and he's Australian too!

The only way to match Virgil Donati's technique is to wander the desert for 30 years and take up yoga.

Ah, Mr. Chambers, an excellent drummer.

Unfortunately, I find that he has reached his peak in terms of his brilliant technical ability.

Re: Billy Cobham

Billy Cobham is the fusion drummer of our time. I'd kill to have his hand technique and his speed around the drums. On top of that, his musicianship and ability to listen to other musicians was...

Re: Help with jazz soloing and trading fours

My favorite saying that has always helped me is KISS which stands for "Keep It Simple, Stupid!", and it works. Instead of trying to show your blistering chops, go with something simple as, more often...

Re: Benny Greb

Sounds like he's doing a RRLRRL for 1 beat followed by two double bass kicks and a snare drum hit.

Re: Benny Greb

He's a very good drummer. He's got the coordination and the foot technique down. On top of that, he's got a good sense of humor.

I hope he goes far in his drumming career.
