i made no comparison to a lawnmower, indeed, i understand that mowers and such are part of normal noise in suburbia, as i mentioned in previous post.

thank you for the replies. i did a bit of playing around last night and i think i had my snare wires too tight as well. I also tigtened up the heads a little and got things sounding a lot better.
