Re: THE GOOD SNARE THREAD

So, I've been obsessed with brass snares recently. I want to get a new one, and I originally wanted a Black Beauty, but I can't afford the $650+ price tag.

I looked up the Black Magic line, and I...

Re: THE GOOD SNARE THREAD

Not sure how good this one sounds, but it looks freaking awesome. It's from a local company from down here in SC called MBW drums.

7.75x13, 20-ply maple, custom made brass hardware.

Re: THE DRUM MODIFICATION THREAD.

Does anyone know if you can strip powder coated hardware? Or is it possible to re-paint powder coated hardware a different color? I want to switch my lugs and tension rods from powder coated silver...

Re: Favorite Drummer?

My 2 favorites are Travis Orbin and Gavin Harrison. Admittedly, I don't keep up that much with the who's who of drummers, but I've never seen anyone like Travis Orbin before.

Re: Are wood hoops just for looks??

Gah, I can't make my mind up. I keep going back and forth on it. It looks like it's gonna end up costing me close to $500 for everything I want to do. But, I think if I just do it a little bit at a...

Re: Are wood hoops just for looks??

I found some on drumbuilder.com that are counter sunk, so I wouldn't need any claws.

Hopefully that link will work. The more I think about it now, the...

Re: Are wood hoops just for looks??

No, I haven't. I mean, I have played kits with wood hoops before, but haven't tried it on my kit.

Let me show you guys what I'm working with, and maybe that will help.

I've got a Pork Pie...

Re: Are wood hoops just for looks??

Alright, thanks. Since I'm only gonna be putting them on my toms, I don't think I really have to worry that much about breaking them.

Are wood hoops just for looks??

Or do they make a difference in sound? I am wanting to replace my powder coated silver hoops with wood, and then replace my lugs with gold plated ones.

So, will switching to wood hoops make a...

Re: Best Heads for Mapex Meridian Maple

Aquarians are pretty good for that deep sound as well. IMO, it's all preference anyways. What's better Ford or Chevy?? Same difference in heads. I personally use Remo Ambassador Clear.

Re: Tip regarding drumhead tuning and wrinkles.

I usually tune to where there are no wrinkles visible when I press down on the head. I like my drums tuned to a lower pitch, but I don't like seeing any wrinkles in the head.

Re: What do you do when the band pushes the beat beyond your ability?

You could tell them that they were playing it too fast. Maybe suggest they play to a click that way they will know when they are speeding up.

Re: What Would You Do??

Apparently not. I honestly didn't know that either. I could've used that against him had I known beforehand. I'm not too worried about it, though. I'll just keep my eyes open, and I'm sure I'll run...

Re: What Would You Do??

Thanks for the replies. I hate that the guy was so turned off to the fact that my kit wasn't American made, even after looking them over, commenting on how nice they looked, and when I told him they...

Re: First drum kit stories!

My first kit was a used 2000 model Pearl Export kit. Black. I bought it from a friend for like $400 with 3 cymbal stands and a pedal. I stripped the wrap off of them, and had a friend who owns a...
