Re: Travis Barker

Travis Barker's drumming style is not necessarily my cup of tea. But with that being said, if you break down Travis' drumming to the basics of drumming. I.e. his ability to play chops/rudiments with...

Re: Weight training effects on drumming (advice needed)

If your in better shape you will always perform better. End of story.

Just be sure not to smoke yourself to the point that you will be unable to play. So be smart when you workout. But I can tell...

Re: Help!! Hand is Cramping

Maybe its diet. This may sound dumb. But do you get enough potassium in your diet. Because that will lead to cramping. Try eating more bananas or something.

Re: Snare Tuning Problems

If you still can't figure it out, I would suggest bringing it to a shop like everyone has said.

But to me, it sounds like your snare wires are either destroyed or they are taut enough.

Re: 8" or 10" diameter tom?

An 8" is very very hi pitched in my opinion. Especially compared to your other toms. So I would suggest going with the 10".

Re: Would Dime/Pantera and Jimmy Hendrix be praised as much if they didn't die?

This is slightly off topic and I might have my facts mixed up, but weren't composers such as Beethoven and Mozart appreciated more after their death than when they were alive.?

Re: The Rev died today

I'm not implying murder or suicide. But I just don't consider someone mysteriously dieing at the age of 28 natural. These days most people live to be at least in their mid 70's.

I mean if he died...

Re: What you wear on your feet.

Climbing shoes?!?

Those must stick to the pedals like its their job.

For me I found that a nicely worn pair of skateboarding shoes is the best.

Re: The Rev died today

It sucks that he died. But I highly doubt he died of natural causes. That's just to easy to say, especially someone at his age. There must be something else behind this, maybe like some people have...

Re: Your sound

With me a lot of my sound came from me trying to imitate the sound of other drummers throughout the years. After while I ended up picking in choosing sounds that I liked best which became my sound.

Re: Mike Portnoy

Word could not have agreed more...

Your right there are faster double bass drummers out there and I stand corrected. That was the first example that came to mind.

Re: Mike Portnoy

I understand your opinion. Maybe I should retract that statement earlier. I don't necessarily believe that he is a power house. But to me many talented drummers out there are very good at a very...

Re: Metal Bass Drum Sound

I'm not going to even say that I'm an authority on this subject. But from personal experience and from what I've heard from the grapevine that "metalic" sound that you hear is mostly achieved from eq...

Re: Conceptual vs physical development

One thing that I've noticed, since I go to a school that doesn't allow drum sets, I don't have much to practice all year round.

But that break from drumming is kind of a blessing in disguise...

Re: OUCH!!! $@&!%*! - The Injury Report

When I'm up at school I don't get to play much drums, so calluses begin to ware off.

When get a chance to play drums during vacations and summer breaks, I usually get a lot of blisters again.

Re: Consistency of musical performance

Same thing happens to me. I notice that I have off days and days that I'm really on. I think it is something that happens to everyone, yet no one really talks much about it.

I've been a drummer...

Re: Strange Drum Habits

1.) As others stated I tend to make out with the air and hum when I'm really into my drumming or the song I'm playing.

2.) It may not necessarily be a drum habit, but I have mad add, if I'm...

Re: Lars Ulrich

Lars Ulrich does not impress me at all.

Nothing about his drumming stands out to me.

He can play double bass, but so can't a lot of drummers.

I have honestly found nothing from his...

Re: Danny Carey

Danny Carey I believe is a very talented drummer. He shows mastery of drumming in odd time sigs and the use of his other musical backgrounds into his kit drumming. Now saying this even though I...

Re: Jon Dolmayan

I used to be a huge SOAD fan when I was younger, and I did learn a few tricks from John Dolmayan's drumming.

But as a few others have said, he doesn't necessarily impress me. There's nothing that...

Re: Portnoy and Dream Theater

Personally, I've never been much a fan of When Dream and Day Unite. I think it has a few good songs on there and some good concepts, but it has too much of an 80's feel to it that I'm not much of a...
