Re: Gavin Harrison here!

This is a non drum relation question. Well, drum related, but not specifically about drums. With Simon Phillips recently departing from Toto tour with Protocol they added Keith Carlock (which makes...

Re: The world of drummers need.....

I've heard carbon fibre cellos and other stringed instruments that sound really incredible. I think a carbon fibre drum set would sound wicked. It'd be super light, too!

Dunnett makes titanium...

Re: Are you sick of the term "POCKET DRUMMER"?

Re: Gavin Harrison here!

Sounds like things are in the planning stage. I hope you make room for some Canadian dates. Winnipeg should be warm in the summer ;). But, I'm sure you have something in mind.

Re: Gavin Harrison here!

I have Logic studio so I know exactly what you mean about latency. I actually use the input monitoring from MainStage if I'm messing with effects. You can still record into Logic with Mainstage...

Re: Can you become a great drummer without being a good music reader?

Maybe a great drummer, but not a working drummer.

Re: Mike Portnoy Quits DT??

I think Terry Bozzio and Gavin Harrison would seem to be the only players with considerable creative momentum to salvage DT's record. As much as I love Danny Carey, I don't know that'd consider him...

Re: Danny Carey

Just noticing the roto toms when I was watching the video clips. Those things have got to be triggered.

Re: Gavin Harrison here!

I understand what you mean. Where I'm coming from in my analogy, programming refers to the most basic fundamentals of technique. You won't expand musically if you're trying to fix your technique...

Re: Gavin Harrison here!

Thanks Gavin. I had a lot of time to think about the question I had asked this week.

What's just a 'drummer' ? I feel like I'm there to make music.

I volunteered for a University Jazz Camp...

Re: Gavin Harrison here!

I have a question about mindsets. I understand the importance of involving one's mindset when approaching a musical situation. I find, sometimes, I'll come into a situation feeling like a musician....

Re: Gavin Harrison here!

Augh! My downbeat is different. I wrote out a lead sheet to this song and I started from the beginning of the illusion with the eighth/sixteenth pattern on the end. I also wrote my interpretation...

Re: Gavin Harrison here!

Hi, I know that this question has probably been asked and answered a hundred times, but can any one tell me what this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X81qq6Fi3G4) song is called? Are there charts...

Re: Creativity Problems

I found the best method to creativity is to go into the rehearsal with no preconceived ideas or notions. It's about complementing the other parts being played. You shouldn't "try" to be creative so...

Re: Terreon Gully

Terreon did a clinic at the University. He and Steffon Harris were there. I had to play and I was INCREDIBLY nervous. Gaah! At any rate, I didn't get entirely beat up by either of them. I really love...

RLLR LLRR LRRL RRLL

and the other one was:

I'm trying to work myself into thinking of...

Re: approaches to the Black Page

Well, you can spend time listening to it alot. Try to follow with the chart. Also, you can do the whole "playing along" thing. It really depends on how your sight-reading is. Of course, I...

Re: Thomas Lang DVD

I'm always working on that. I'm able to get it up to the 100bpm while applying the drumset orchestration. It's hard to keep it even for a long time. I guess it's building the proficiency. There's...

Re: tuning toms

It really depends on the tone you want. If you want lots of action, the reso head would be higher because of quicker responce. If you want more projection and a larger sound, you would tune the...
