Re: German grip, which German?

Can't say that I do. =\ I mean, knowing the origin isn't going to make me a better drummer....But I'll kindly get out of your way so you can figure it out.

Re: Starting Back At The Basics Is Very Humbling

This thread inspired me to go go back and practice my coordination basics. WOW. I opened up the book New Breed by Gary Chester and right off the bat I felt like a baby trying to walk for the first...

Get to work on them rudiments! If you have a bass drum pedal, set it up with a pillow or something that you can use as a kick and you'll be able to work on footwork, too.

EDIT: Here you go,...

Re: I like cheap snares

I built my first (and only) stave snare drum with $20 in wood from Home Depot a couple years ago and it turned out the be the best sounding snare I'd ever played at the time. I got compliments on it...

Re: Lugwig Legacy. How good of a deal is this?

I usually hate fades, especially on Ludwigs, but after seeing your own photos of them all set up and cleaned up, I think they're absolutely gorgeous and you got a killer deal on them. A configuration...

Re: I Need to Get Re-Motivted

We've definitely all been there. I've found what motivates me the most is going to shows and being a part of the crowd - not up on stage playing. It absolutely kills me watching somebody else up on...

Re: Custom drums delivery time

I got my Classic Maples in just a little over a month. But that was then. I imagine the time varies depending on how many orders they have at any given time.

Unfortunately, there's no way of...

Re: Musically, what are you involved with at the present?

1. How many bands are you in?
1 - The Great Hiatum

2. What kind of music does each band play? Instrumentation?
We don't like to identify with genres because our songs are very diverse. We've got...

Re: Does anyone actually like big finales?

My band doesn't do big finales, but they definitely have their place. We have one song that we ring out and finish with a bang, but that's it.

What do you guys think belongs at the end of a set...

Re: Practice Pads

I've also used the HQ ReelFeel gum rubber pad for years. It's the best general practice pad around IMO.

Re: Where Do You Fit? - Poll

I guess I voted a long time ago and it won't let me change my vote. But I've been at #2 for almost a year now. One day I'd like to try out being at #1.

Re: looking for snare drum

Firstly: Google.

My suggestions are Ebay, Craigslist, or any authorized Ludwig dealer. (local pro drum shops, Guitar Center, etc...)

Re: More Creative on a Smaller Kit

If any of you haven't, I'd encourage you to watch DCI's I&E performances from any year. I&E stands for Individual and Ensemble and what it is is a day long competition between individual members of...

Re: West Coast Drum Shops

Rhythm Traders in Portland is my go-to 5 star shop. The guys are great there. That's where I ordered my Classic Maples from.

We have Sam Adato's down here in Eugene, but he seems to mostly deal...

Re: Tips for learning 7/8 time?

I'll echo this. My favorite way to break down 7/8 is into three groups. Counting two groups of two and one group of three was the easiest way for me to get a feel for it. But you can count it in any...

Re: Always sounding bad when practicing

This is what bothers me about practicing. I know I sound bad when I practice, but that's exactly why we're practicing. But a lot of people, including my neighbors, don't understand that. I don't let...

Re: Starting to teach.

That's the approach I would WANT to take if I began teaching and I've given lots of thought to the idea of starting. But my fear is that the students would quickly lose interest if they aren't...

Re: Tuning toms to octaves

I've tuned my 12" and 16" to high and low octaves before, but without a 14" at a 3rd or 5th from the 12" I always thought it sounded strange going from one to the other or playing them together.

Re: What's your latest purchase?

They sure are! It took me a gig or two to get used to them and loading them up and then loading them into the 4 runner, but once I got it figured out I fell in love.

The drum cases are great, even...
