Re: What do you guys do to help advertise your band?

Youtube's a given, facebook's a given. But most people don't use these social networking sites effectively. Just posting youtube videos of your playing won't get you anywhere. It's useful to post...

Re: Unexpected odd-time in rap

Funnily enough, I was a tutor in NYC last year, and during orientation, the extremely up-beat song on the orientation video was in 7/8.... I was flabbergasted, and confused as to why they would make...

Re: Could someone please explain what my band is doing here?

That's actually pretty interesting...

The way I counted it was....

Re: Drum Fantasy Camp

One of my best friends has gone for the past 2 years and he said it has literally been some of the most fun he's ever had in his life (granted, we're only 2nd year college students, but still!). ...

Re: What's the difference between 12/8 and 4/4 with a swing feel? And other time sig questions.

But Larry! One shouldn't think that specific time signatures denote specific feels! There are multiple feels for each time signature, even 4/4 (8/8)! Here's a tune in 4/4, doesn't sound like our...

Re: What's the difference between 12/8 and 4/4 with a swing feel? And other time sig questions.

I think the main differences in 6/8 and 12/8 relate to more the harmonic and chordal structure of a song, and not so much its feel, but that's just me. Though there are definitely some unique 6/8...

Re: Muse: what am I missing here?

I agree with everyone in this post so much it's ridiculous. Muse has definitely taken to the popularity thing very well, and as a result their live shows have become huge, expensive projects based...

Re: How do you do this? Benny Greb cymbal thing

I've tried it on a bunch of rides, and I think as long as its a professional quality cymbal, its quite possible and rather easy.

All you gotta do is put the tip of the stick pretty much...

Re: Does playing the piano make learning drums easier?

There's no "proper" way to play the drums when it comes to which hand leads on the hi-hat. Come to think of it, most drummers (myself included) probably wish they were taught to play the hi-hat with...

Re: "Internal tempo" for beginners? (Little to no use of metronome)

It depends on the piece, but normally, orchestra music, in my opinion, should not be used or practiced with a metronome. So much of a piece's character is based on the ebb and flow of the tempo,...

Not messing up

So I started recording myself and as a result I began realizing how friggin hard it is to not mess up on takes. I almost always leave the pocket at least once in any given take. It's extremely...

Re: this music is way ahead of its time.

The Bad Plus has moved me in ways that no other band has. Their live act is the best i've ever seen, nothing else seems to compare. I saw them at the vanguard front row and it was the most...

Re: transcribing time signatures

The only reason one should differentiate between 6/8 and 6/4 etc. are if you change time signatures rather often.

For example, if a song starts in 4/4, then goes into 6/8, the feel will sound...
