Re: Looking for a jazz kit

Id go for the catalina club jazz kit. I dont own the set but I've heard that style kit a few times while working as a live sound tech. Honestly, they sound really good.

Single ply snares

I was on ebay looking at the platinum series snares. They have a few solid maple snares and maple plies. The only draw back is that the solids has wraps and I wish they were lacquered. However,...

Re: Every Drum Set I Have Ever Owned

Re: PDP Platinum second thoughts

You should be able to get the kick sounding nice with a little advice from here.

I do find your tom sizes a little odd: 8,10 and 18. I consider the 8" tom tom and 18" floor as add ons and not...

Re: Ear-piercing snare!

If hes in a small room with lots of reflective surfaces, the drum can pretty harsh sounding.

The a thin tea napkin may help but it will effect the rebound/feel.

Id probably just wear ear...

Re: Pro Workhorse Kits?

Ooops

When harry conway suggested 2 kicks, I don't think he meant for you to use at the same time. Or maybe he did but either way, My point is just because you have 2 kick drum sizes doesn't mean...

Re: Micing a bass drum with no port hole

The yamaha sub kick shouldn't be used by itself. Its not a full range transducer. You need to use the Yamaha Sub Kick with another kick drum mic like a shure beta 52 or akg D112.

For live,...

Re: Why does everyone hate Gretsch Catalina snares?

I think the catalina jazz club snare sounds great. The mohagany snare that comes with the catalina jazz club kit.. you know the one that comes with the 18" kick. It's 14x5. I almost bought one on...

Re: 14x11 versus 14x12

Im likely getting a 12x9 rack tom, ratio wise the 14x11 seems like the right choice.

But it would be my only floor tom so i'd want to perform more like that.

The 14x12 seems like it would...

Re: drum sizes.. any suggestions

For starters, I dont like 20x20 kicks. They never sound how a decent kick drum should sound, IMO.

If I were you i'd get a standard 18x22 or 16x22 kick, 12x9 rack tom and 14x12 .

I love the...

Re: Snare options

Id go with the Older gretsch for only 50 quid more. The value will likely appreciate more than the other. I am not sure which will sound better. No one can tell you that without playing them.

Re: Im gonna flip out!!

On a side note, Ludwig is discontinuing blue sparkle on their birch kits. So I have the last blue sparkle brich kit every produced. Now If I can only ludwig to stop messing up the bearing edges.

Re: Im gonna flip out!!

Instead of sending the drum back to ludwig, I'd like to send the drum out to pork pie or some other reputable drum shop that can re-due or touch up the bearing edges and have ludwig pick up the tab.

Re: What will be the most sought after drums 40 years from now?

The traditional drum set is fairly new to the world. Whatever drums are collectable will most likely increase in value over time. It's hard to say what drums will be valuable from the 70's and on. ...

Re: 1971: Premier & Ludwig? what's this snare?

Premier Metal Snare Drum with a ludwig strainer 5x14.

I can't imagine it being worth much. I couldn't imagine it being worth more than $100.
