Re: Advice on value of monster vintage Pearl kit

Fiberglass drums do not bring a premium price these days and the chrome wrap I believe is Mylar,so the wear and tear resistance is not the same as a metal wrap.

Very much a niche product a la...

Re: These posts I see on Craigslist

Most club owners are interested in making money.

DJ's and watered down drinks are their best methods of doing so.

Why pay a live band when a DJ is half as much and those with ravaging hormones...

Re: These posts I see on Craigslist

I've played many a paying gig without rehearsing with a band.
With that being said ,it's mostly standards that we've all heard before and or stuff from a fake book.
If somebody requests a polka or...

Re: Cymbal cancer warnings

The plastic shrink wrapping on merchandise in most convenience stores
contains trace amounts o carcinogens as do most of the computers.
Sell beer ,same thing.
So they must put up a sign stating...

Re: Cymbal cancer warnings

As Carson used to say ,welcome to the land of the fruits and nuts.

I lived on and off in Ca for many many years and the loonies that have too much time on their hands keep on thinking up more and...

Re: Namm 2019 rumors

Was at the local GC the other day and they had a blue Neusonic next to a Sonor SQ1
in basically the same wrap.
The Sonor was $2600 and the Luddy was $999.
Pretty much no difference in tone or QC.

Re: is it cheaper to buy individual drums to complete a set?

There's something called economy of scale from Econ 101 that comes to bear here.

Drum companies will do a run of drums at certain finishes and sizes that you can get a decent prices for a certain...

Re: David Garibaldi custom Yamaha 14x3.5 snare. Are these rare?

We have one that's been on Craigslist for a few months at $850 and still no takers.
Great sounding snare ,but as pointed out ,it's what the buyer is willing to pay.

Re: Is Guitar Center changing?

I talked to some of the drum guys at GC.

At one point only the higher performing stores(Santa Clara ,Hollywood) were designated drum destination shops and they got most of the higher end gear.

Re: Current drum trends you wish would go away

Nothing is really current ,it's just the fashion changing for the sake of fashions sake.

The oversized bass drum trend over these past years does bug me though.

Kind of like bell bottoms and...

Re: Under Rated or Fairly Unknown Drummers

Check out Sammy Davis Junior or Mel Torme.
Both are surprisingly good for singers.

Re: Looking for Jazz Drum Set

I'd get a regular full size drum kit.
If we're talking stage band and lot's of brass,16x22 inch kick ,8x10 12x9 and 16x16.
I'd get a wrapped kit as the lacquer stuff damages easy.
The Ludwig...

That's the one I have except mine has the aluminum die cast hoops.

Re: 1983 Yamaha brass piccolo or new DW 4x14 brass

Re: 1983 Yamaha brass piccolo or new DW 4x14 brass

I own both and they are very different sounding drums.
I find the Yamaha a bit more bright and sensitive and the DW more rounded and dark.
In the end ,it just comes down to personnel preference.
