Re: The drummers who just go for it

You're right, I didn't give him enough credit. He can read, at least at a third grade level. Now if only he could play the drums.

Re: The drummers who just go for it

Quite possibly more than eat with utensils. Some parts of the world wonder why we're so keen to put metal in our mouth with our food, and contend that eating with your hands gives you better...

Re: Some Drum Workshop love!

In that second pic, I can't tell if you're ready to rip up the kit, or solve a crime in Miami. Either way, I'm entranced.

Re: The drummers who just go for it

You find Barker laughable too? High five! I mean, the guy can't even read most of his tattoos. Amirite?

Re: How do you hear it all?

Thanks man, this is the kind of thing I wouldn't think of on my own. Not being sure what to ask for is what keeps me from making an issue of it with sound guys, who I find really run the gammut as...

Re: How do you hear it all?

Like I said, normally, I just get on with it. But hell, if there's something I can do to be proactive and fix the problem, it's worth at least thinking about. The other thing about this band is...

Re: Improper use of drum equipment

Improper use? Looks like she nail'd it to me.

Re: How do you hear it all?

I'm going to look into that, thanks, Matt.

I like the phone output idea too, leaves another option if I still can't hear. You think that little thing would handle the full mix or would you...

Re: How do you hear it all?

Actually, you're almost certainly right to a point, but there isn't much I can do about it. I'm mostly playing in a weird kinda surfy-punk-grunge (fan said we sound like a mash of nirvana and dead...

Re: How do you hear it all?

I can tell by this that you know what I mean. I play clubs/venues that range from shitty sound, to "bring your own sound" and then the next show there's a huge light show and 1/4 mill stage setup. ...

Re: How do you hear it all?

Almost never do we use our own PA, the house systems are always better than what we'd tend to carry around for front of house. I'm looking into maybe seeing about buying a personal wedge that I can...

How do you hear it all?

Hey guys, I wanted to open a discussion about monitoring live sound for drummers. I have decided it's time that I bring some of my own equipment out to venues because of all the issues hearing...

Re: How does Gavin do this?

With tons of respect, I don't see what's stopping you. It's like you've built up your own mental block on the subject and decided that you're just not good at this. Attack it from different ways...

Re: Stage Etiquette

One thing that gets me sometimes is if I'm going on as a support band, and then the headline band shows up literally at the end of our set. I think that's about the same insult level as leaving to...

Re: How does Gavin do this?

I hope you don't think I was trying to patronize. I really do that all the time. If I have a specific number of measures to get through by myself, I tend to pick an anchor point and accent that...

Re: How does Gavin do this?

Larry, have you tried counting/accenting 1's as a place to start for solos? Hit the one hard, then do something else for the rest of the measure, then do it again. Eventually, you'll "feel" it just...

Re: Stage Etiquette

I'm usually fairly adept at picking up on sarcasm. My bad.

I think it may have been the statement "true story" that threw me off.

Re: So should you never bounce doubles?

THIS.

I'll see it a lot... A new drummer who has just discovered that the stick bounces when you hit something... It always sounds like the bounce of the surface is setting the tempo for the whole...

Re: Stage Etiquette

Really? A deaf sound guy at a venue?

I'm not trying to be mean, but that just sounds stupider than studpidest. Would you even bother with a sound check since it's more of a band rehearsal and he...

Re: tom mounts on cymbal stands

One kit has a suspended floor tom, the other a suspended high tom. The only one I ever worry about in terms of gravity and centers is the bigger, lower to the ground floor tom. The small tom has...

Re: Antiquing / Distressing drums and hardware

Give it to me, I'll play a few punk gigs, spill some beer, throw it in the truck without cases, and you're done.

Re: Beginner looking for advice

A Funky Primer.

Best book for a beginner who wants to play beats in a band. At least I believe so. I still go to that book all the time, and I haven't been a "beginner" for a long time! The...
