Re: Who Here Loves Rock

ALL Disturbed. All of it.

And you are correct about Tooll. Ænema and Parabola always get me grooving. Early Soundgarden and Alice in Chains are also great for that.

Re: Why the "hate" for nylon tips??

I agree about the brighter cymbal sound, but I play mostly hard rock and metal so that's just what works for me. Of course I guess I'm sort of a double pariah because I play with nylon tips on...

Re: Other songs that sound like other songs

There's a riff in Tool's Lateralus that sounds close to the verses in Test for Echo by Rush. They also happen to both be title tracks on their respective albums.

More recently a lot of people...

Re: What was the first concert you went to????

Ike (local alt-rock band) at the Spectrum in Philadelphia, PA after a Phantoms game, 2006.

First major concert was the 2013 MMRBQ in Camden, NJ. Device, Buckcherry, Cheap Trick, Alice in Chains,...

Re: S****y albums done by great bands..

Gotta disagree majorly with both of those. A Matter of Life and Death is among my top three or four Maiden albums. Other than the opening track "Different World", I rarely skip a song from that album...

Re: Heavy music, where did the ride go?

Most modern "metal" drumming seems more focused on double bass patterns than ride patterns anyway. There are exceptions but to be honest I can't remotely tell most "metal" drummers apart these days....

Re: Completely out of touch old fart irrelevant opinion - but,

I saw plenty of dancing at the Soundgarden, Alice in Chains and Black Sabbath concerts I went to. Did quite a bit myself.

Re: Upcoming Concerts You Will Be Attending

Seeing the first band I remember listening to as a toddler, Dishwalla, in Montclair, NJ with Stroke 9, Nine Days, and The English Beat next Friday the 19th. After that, Judas Priest in Allentown, PA...

Re: Drum Configuration

Those are the exact same sizes I play, and while I lean more towards standard hard rock/grunge, I play stuff like Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden too and they sound fine. I used clear Ambassadors for a...

Re: Shoes with Elastic Bands: Yes or No?

Not as alone as you think. I first tried water shoes at the beginning of the summer, and haven't played wearing anything else since.

Re: Bad hi-hat recording

I hear nothing odd about the hats. I always assume a band intends for stuff to sound the way it does anyway.

Re: Bad Auditions

If I got that response the part I would take away would be the compliment. There's nothing in your story to suggest you are being treated as a lowly backup choice. It's probably just normal...

Re: Musical artists whose death saddened you.

As far as deaths that I was aware of at the time they occurred, Ronnie James Dio was a huge one, since it led me to listen to more of his music and realize how influential he was in the metal genre....

Re: What's your latest purchase?

Paiste Alpha 16" Rock Crash that showed up on my porch before I woke up this morning. Snagged it on Ebay this past weekend, used, for 95 bucks. I needed to replace my 7+ year old PST5 16" Rock Crash...

Re: Famous Metal drummers?

A lot of metal and hard rock drummers have two bass drums. I can only think of two drummers off the top of my head who play double pedal on one bass and those are Matt Cameron of Soundgarden and Neil...

What makes this even more awesome is I have that same "Life is Good" shirt. Those words are quite true in this case.

Re: Drummers around 5'6" - What size drums do you have?

I'm 5 foot 8 inches and comfortably enjoy my 24" bass and 8" deep rack toms, and a 12" deep floor tom. The two questions that came to my mind are how deep are your toms, and is your throne high...

Re: What's the oldest drum gear you own?

My 8" Tama rack tom and my 24" Tama Imperialstar bass both have that Zola coating so they're probably the oldest pieces.

Re: What's your favourite metal/ rock beat?

For metal probably Paschendale by Iron Maiden or Jesus Christ Pose by Soundgarden. For rock either Tom Sawyer by Rush or Spoonman by Soundgarden.
