Re: playing along with stuff

Welcome to DrummerWorld and the 21st century. IPods work excellent and are pretty outdated so perfect for the guy who's behind the times. Seriously though if you have a computer you can store all of...

Re: Tama Starclassics!

Just looked up some old Tama catalogs and this what I found. Performer series started in 94 and were Philippine mahogany/birch inner shells that offered a variety of lacquer finishes or one of four...

Re: Priced to High??

Yeah but for resale value Made in Taiwan is not good. The 18" kick is a price killer too. I didn't mean to offend. Just giving you the straight dope.

Re: Priced to High??

Maybe a little high. $1100 for three used drums, made in Taiwan, with an 18" bass drum. You have to look at it from a buyer's perspective. Plus it's a down market for everything.

Re: Anyone ever try to poach your seat?

You may want to think about getting some new friends. When I look at successful bands the drummer is very often integral to their success. The other members regard them as such. Watching interviews...

Re: Another "is this a good price" question (DW Collectors)

I hate to disagree with you Matt, usually your advice is spot on, but $900 for a 4pc DW is just not realistic. 3pc maybe if they were completely thrashed. And old DW kits were not Camcos with a new...

Re: Yamaha Phoenix (PHX) Drums

And just like that they gotcha. " My drums were made by three Japanese monks in a secret fortress high atop a mountain". They are ply drums. They were made in a hydraulic press in a factory. They...

Re: DW Collectors Snare Suggestions?

I have 14x6 Collectors and it will do just about anything you ask it to. It has a wide tuning range, but this drum really finds its voice in a mid tuning. I have used mine for...

Re: Pearl Masters Custom Maple

That's why said "IMO". In my opinion Absolute Custom beats Performer too. It's the MMX shell that makes me chose the Pearl. That thin maple shell with 're-rings is a sound I really like.

Re: The matching snare

I don't mind a matching snare depending on the kit. When I see an Absolute Custom with a matching snare, well I know that snare is awesome on its own, regardless of color. A PDP x7 or Catalina Maple...

Re: Anyone ever try to poach your seat?

This guy sounds pretty naive to me. It takes a lot of meticulous work to build a band up to a high level. It's a living organism. Where your band has gotten to is as much due to you being a member as...

Re: The matching snare

The Paiste kit that was built for Danny Carey is insanely heavy. The bass drums each weigh 90 lbs.

Re: Pearl Masters Custom Maple

If you haven't bought the Starclassic yet you should get the Masters. Maple beats birch every time IMO. Both very good kits so hard to go wrong, but that MMX is the winner.

Re: Buying first kit, 2 options, which kit would you go for?

I agree with the Mapex voices. The consensus seems to be that you will soon need to upgrade the cymbals with the Tama and then at some point upgrade the kit too. Cut out the middle man and buy the...

Re: Vintage Ludwig & Ludwig drums

An old Ludwig showed up on CL yesterday for $300. I immediately emailed the seller and offered to buy, but someone got there before me. The seller didn't email a response and the ad came down while...

Re: Help me look....cooler? more relaxed?

Play with a cigarette in cigarette holder like the drummer from Cheap Trick. That guy looks like FDR playing the drums. As long as your playing is clean and charismatic you will win over the house.

In a throwaway capacity like that, sure. When we discuss the use of the phrase "female drummer" in a negative way, we are talking about the specific...

Re: Female Drummer Project/Questionnaire

When describing a player to another drummer I will often say "you 've got to see this guy, he's amazing!". Am I not supposed to do that if it's a woman. "You've got to see this drummer, they're...

Re: Tuning "experts" mini rant

Both offer excellent tutorials. I use John's fundamental note method on my toms and Bob's lowest possible pitch on my bass drum (i'm a life long "crank the reso" snare man). I could not bring myself...

Re: Adding a tom to my DW kit

First look on eBay, there are a lot of orphaned 10" toms out there. If that doesn't work you will need to order it from your local authorized dealer. If you contact DW they will help you find a...

I've only ever seen a couple of drummers who use steam bent kits. Only one or two of the literally hundreds and hundreds of drum companies make them. If they sound so good then why does almost no one...

Re: (Keller) Shells, thickness, counterhoops, bearing edges...I need help

I have a Keller DW that features 5 ply shells with rings and a 16" Razorback that is also a 5 ply Keller without rings. They are 3/16 of an inch thick, which I think is too thin for a snare. I...
