Re: "Longer" 7A drumsticks - suggestions?

+1 on the VF Questlove sticks though it might be a big jump from what you're currently using.

Vater bebop 500, bebop 525, bopworks 40's swing classic.

After trying out a bunch of sticks, I...

Re: Teaching a teenager who doesn't listen to music

What did he say was the reason/s he wanted to learn drums? Answering his "why" part would definitely help in figuring out the best way to move forward.

Re: Locking in with the bassist (cd/DVDs?)

Doesn't really have the backing tracks but two of Victor Wooten's dvds have given me a broader view of a lot of drummer-bassist-song interactions

hansen futz pedals are pretty quiet with the rubber insert.

Re: sell acoustic to go electric?

Based on statements, I'm guessing the main problem is more than the drums.
Though sub problem / contributing factors (from a drumming perspective) are
a) noise
b) finances

Noise -- electronic...

Re: Roland SPD-S vs SPD-30

SPD-S is a sampler while the SPD30 isn't -- you'll have to do with the factory default sounds on the SPD30. Has good sounds thougt.

If you are looking for a "sampler", SPD-S should be the choice...

Re: Snare drum buying advice

If you want more punch or something "rockier", maybe experiment with thicker heads -- remo ambassador x, emperors, controlled sound, aquarian studio x, focus x, and others. It may just be that change...

Re: snare suggestions..

Thanks! It looks like it's actually boiling down to the lud bb 14x5 hammered brass. Would just like to see if there are others out there that I might be missing (or others not as "common" as the BB,...

Re: snare suggestions..

I had a 90's tama starclassic brass which is plain (not COB) and a 6.5" deep. Also used that as a reference as to what I'm wanting (and not) on the brass snare. The one I had was darker in tone than...

Re: snare suggestions..

Thanks. I've tried the 6.5 BB. I like it but the 6.5" depth is too much for me. The BB is one of the reasons why I leaning towards the NOB variant.

Re: snare suggestions..

Thanks Bo. I'll try checking it out and spending more time with the Copeland snare. One reason why I'm wanting Nickel over brass is from the brass snares I've tried, the NOB versions sound warmer...
