Re: Last piece of gear you forgot?

Drove almost 100 miles for a first-time jam with a drummer and showed up with my guitar, half stack, pedals, and NO guitar cord.

Re: I don't like my drumming . . . .

Actually I'm not saying I overplay, it's more like I do mindless fills which are actually more simplistic than incorporating effect cymbals for example. I'm actually much busier with fewer toms, and...

Re: Starting Back At The Basics Is Very Humbling

I'm illiterate regarding the more technical rudiments. I mean, I can play them, I just haven't learned to use them musically. I now consider myself a hack until I get a grip on those (incorporating...

Re: Aerosmith sweet emotion drumless

I remember seeing that site, if it's the same one I saw the number of songs available is unbelievable!

I don't like my drumming . . . .

. . . when I expand the toms setup beyond two rack toms and a pair of floors.
I don't like the sound of tom rolls and I robotically tend to do that when the additional tom(s) are present. It's like...

Re: What was the first concert you went to????

Well, it was supposed to be Ozzy in 1982 but they cancelled due to Rhoads' plane crash.

Original line up was Ozzy, Foreigner and UFO.
Pat Travers band stepped in for Ozzy. I really enjoyed UFO.

Re: This will be my standard reply from now on

I dunno, it depends who's asking those questions and in what context. They aren't questions a beginner should be agonizing over, which they sometimes ask as if within the answer lies the secrets to...

Re: Why the hate? (Lars Ulrich)

Well, when I said "was" what I was trying to say was that there was a time when his playing was really good. Prior to the black album.

Re: Double Bass Drum Futility

If this doesn't answer those questions, nothing will. Even if you don't like, be sure to listen at least up to 1:10 for the nice transition.

Re: Can't seem to play fast

Your speed in that clip sounds well above 200 bpm.

Re: Drummers who don't play/use a ride cymbal.

He's what we in my other hobby call "high speed, low drag" lol.

Re: Tony Royster Jr.

Oh yeah, he's unreal. I'm a better drummer just for watching him play. I've heard people complain that he overplays, I say nonsense. Sure, if he's doing a clinic or showcase of some sort, which he...

Re: Why the hate? (Lars Ulrich)

Metaphorically, yes. He started wearing that on the black album.

Then there's the internet. Have you seen him solo? Thanks to the web, so have millions of others. He's aweful considering his fame...

Re: Warm up routines

If I've just been sitting around before playing, the first thing I do is about 30 calf raises to get my legs warmed up. Then just play slowly and speed up for about 2 minutes. I know I'm done warming...

Re: THE CLASSIFIEDS - For Sale / Wanted

I have an Axis AL-2 Longboard double pedal, brand new still in factory box. This is the latest version (ordered from MusiciansFriend a few days before Christmas).

Re: When have you truly 'mastered' a given BPM?

For me 5-10 BPM makes a big difference on the kick when it's exactly at the speed where I transition from one type of leg movement to the next.

Maintaining LRLR 16ths at about 160 sometimes feels...

Re: Independence vs learning set patterns

8Mile used the word "autopilot". This is how I feel too when the level of complexity of limb separation in a particular beat gets high enough, one or more limbs switch to autopilot while I "think"...

Re: When have you truly 'mastered' a given BPM?

With regard to double bass speed, I believe your friend has a point, but his mistake is insisting on the one hour. I think the point is you must have endurance, or more specifically, proper...
