Re: Drummers who QUANTIZE recorded drums

When I do home recordings I quantize all the time, if I'm trying to do a serious recording... mostly because I'm not all that great at drums. However, I typically only quantize the notes that are...

Re: what do u think is necessary

Out of your list, I'd have to say 'freedom of sound' - I suppose.

To me, the utopia for a drummer would be -
Someone who can play exactly what they're thinking about, especially in real-time....

Re: Saw a lousy drummer last night

You sure this guy isn't a beginner? Sounds like he's hitting all the marks a beginner might hit (missing cues and such).

Great story telling btw!

Re: Help me understand when people list their roll speeds

What I don't get is duration.

If I need to I can blast through a couple bars at 220 bpm w/single strokes but if I'm doing my 5 minute single stroke drill (just singles for 5 minutes, highest tempo...

Re: Best deal you've ever scored on drum gear

Yeesh, I don't have anything that compares to the OP. I don't get much of a chance to buy drum gear so my best deal so far is - (All Sabian Xs20s, brand new) 18in C/R, 13in hats and 14in crash for...

Re: Should I Wear Ear Plugs...15 Year Old?

I suffer from a mild case of tinnitus - you should DEFINITELY wear earplugs.

My rule - if you're going to play for more than 3 seconds then wear earplugs.

Re: maybe be a stupid question, but... thoughts on accustic vs e-kit

Acoustic kits are real drums, e-kits are drum simulators.

Also, typically e-kits are way more expensive.

Re: Frustrated Beginner practice help

For me the most important thing to practice is dynamics, limb independence and different musical styles. When I practice rudiments on my kit I always try to mix it up so I'm not just hitting the...

Re: People Who Count Off The Song At A Different Tempo To The Song's Actual Tempo

I probably do this, but it's because I'm counting in to start, not necessarily counting in on the exact tempo (though I will ball-park it... not gonna count in @ 180 BPM when the song is 75). We're...

Re: What is your favorite concert?

My favorite was probably Tool last year at Red Rocks in Morrison, CO. Awesome band all-around, but actually seeing that Danny Carey can actually play that crazy sh*t live (and perfectly) had me...

Re: Hearing Protection

I'm a big fan of the Hearo's Hi-Fidelity inner earplugs. They don't muddy up the sound like the foamy plugs do.

Re: Quietest practice pad?

I actually don't have any old drums sitting around, but a great tip anyhow. Guess I could look for a cheap single drum on CL or something...

Quietest practice pad?

Hey guys,

I love to practice on the pad while watching TV and even though my wife tolerates it really well, I know secretly it drives her nuts to hear "thump thump thump" for an hour or more while...

Re: Hearing protection question for you drummers

I think that's a very reasonable price. To me the quality is actually quite nice for that price, deep bass (of course, since this is what a lot of people attribute to 'good sound') mids and highs are...

Re: Hearing protection question for you drummers

I've been using SkullCandy Titan noise isolating ear buds. While they're not 'audophile' quality music-wise, for the price (I think $35) they're good. Since they're noise isolating they sort of act...

Anyone happen to know of a good teacher in the Denver area?

I'm 29 and I've been playing for almost 2 years (well wrist injury put me out and I quit for 8 months, so a year and a half or so real experience). I've worked fairly hard by myself but it's...

Re: How do you remove moongel stains from coated heads?

I'm in the "why bother" crowd. If I wanted my heads to look brand new all the time I wouldn't play my drums.

Re: I have an amazing idea for working on your left hand, while you're browsing the web!

If I'm just sitting around watching TV and I feel like sitting back in my chair I love practicing with just my left hand, especially finger techniques, Moeller strokes and push-pulls. It seems to...

Re: But which one! Stick control/The new breed/4-way coordination

Actually those 3 books happen to be the books I've been working out of consistently for quite awhile. I recommend all three. Stick Control is just something that belongs in every drummers library, it...

Here's your prescription...

You've been playing for 3 years so you are definitely ready to take on one (1) copy of New Breed by Gary Chester. You may have hit a wall with your limb independence,...
