Re: How generous are you when supplying a kit?

Sounds like they hired your drum kit, not your band. Glad it worked out ok, but crazy story.

Re: Asking for some advice from a Medium-Beginner

Some good responses so far cangaroo. I'm going to show you how I divide up an hour of practice, not saying that my routine is the ideal but maybe it will be helpful to compare with someone else

Re: Switching to hand drums

More contemporary music with acoustic guitar than anything else.

Re: Question about Stick Angles Relative to the Drum

I think a 0 degree angle would cause your stick to get caught on the rim of the drum.

Apart from that, he seems to be saying that a little bit of downward pressure will prevent the sticks from...

Switching to hand drums

What are your opinions on drumset players doing one-off gigs on cajon, djembe or other traditional hand drums? This is something I get asked to do a lot and I've always shied away from it. I reckon...

Re: Bandmate comparing me to other drummer

Maybe if you made fun of her about it she would start to realise how extreme her behaviour is getting.

For example, stick a photo of this other drummer onto the outside of paper bag. Then every...

Re: Playing offbeats while listening to quarter notes

It's worth spending some time on the upbeats alone. That means no downbeats, no chord changes, no melody. Just have the metronome play the downbeats while you play the upbeats, until that upbeat...

Re: How did you find Drummerworld?

Yes, this is how I got here too. Every time I went to google with a drum-related question, I found that the best answers and discussions were in the archives of this forum. I was reading old threads...

Re: Controlled Chaos: songs

Rory Gallagher is the first person who came to my mind, especially his live performances. The dynamics are always shifting and the tempo never sits still. Here's his cover of Messin' With the Kid,...

Re: Hearing test

My hearing is perfect. But there's a problem with the video, for some reason they started to turn down the volume at 14khz...

Re: Bass Drum with metal hoops

Thanks for the replies everyone. I suppose there's really only one way to find out for sure.

Re: Ear training

It's a cool idea, and I think it would actually be easier to do it for tempo than pitch, but only if we were able to limit it to just 12 tempi (the way the chromatic scale is limited to just 12...

Bass Drum with metal hoops

I recently got a Sonor Player kit. The bass drum is 20"x12" and has metal hoops. Someone posted pictures on a facebook group of the same kit, but he switched the bass drum hoops out for wooden ones....

But "headroom" implies that you COULD apply it if the need arose.

Re: Look what I got for Christmas...

Now comes the big dilemma, will you play with them? It would be a shame not to, but then again it would be a shame to break one...

Re: First kit for my son's 13th birthday

With the PDP kit it looks like you will have to buy a seat separately. The Ludwig one has a "drum throne" included in the list of hardware but I don't see one listed in the PDP ad.

Neither one of...

Re: Ever had the cops called on you for drumming?

If my neighbours called the cops, I'd probably have headphones on and wouldn't even hear them outside.

Re: Tips to stop "The drums are too loud" complaints?

Why all the secrecy? If he has a specific result in mind, he should tell you the number and let you use his app for the soundcheck. Sounds to me like he's sabotaging the gig so he can have some fun...

Re: Every riff in a different BPM?

The impression I got was that there are no actual songs, just little snatches of tunes. The guitarist plays something for a few seconds, and then switches to something else, and keeps going until he...

Re: Does the Music Move You when You Play?

But the brewer has to taste the beer, right? He can't just ship it off and hope for the best. But he also can't get so smashed that he don't care what it tastes like anymore.

Re: Traditional Grip....what the hell am I doing wrong....

Do some air drumming first. Imagine where each drum and cymbal would be ideally placed so that you can hit it with either hand. Then set up your kit like that.

Re: Do you feel like people who can't play drums are "less" of a musician?

Everything started with the drums, like literally everything. The universe started out with "the big bang" not "the big twang."

Re: Calf Cramping

Throne height is important, but also take a look at the position of your bass drum. Ideally your bass drum should be aimed off to the right if you play it with your right foot, or to the left if...

Re: Should i teach drums at my age and level

I can see you doing a Cesar Milan type TV show, The Musician Whisperer. Not just for drummers but also arrogant singers, guitarists who keep turning up their volume, bassists who try to wing it...
