Re: Sonor Designer Series Maple Light

You can check over here on this message board. It's kind of a Sonor owners club for both new and older kits. It's not anywhere near as active as this site so may have to wait a couple days for a...

Re: Favorite high end drum kit- model and brand?

There's alot of nice kits out there today. Hard to go wrong if you do even a little bit of research. My favorite would be getting a free pass on the Sonor SQ2 configurator. I could really hurt that...

Re: 8 lug snare drums. Thoughts?

I've had this 8 lugger for about a week and half now and I'm really happy with the tuning range and tonal quality. It's beech and man does it crack on rim shots. Played softly the articulation is...

Re: My new Yamaha Hybrid Maple.

A deal becomes a great deal if you walk out of it with what you wanted for what you were willing to give. The best deals are where both parties are happy.

BTW, Nice drums !! Pretty color.....and I...

8 lug snare drums. Thoughts?

Just curious as to people's opinions on 8 lug vs 10 lug snares. I've only ever owned one 8 lug and it was a throw in on an inexpensive kit. I'm more interested in better quality snares. Anybody?

Re: Get better Andy!

Prayers sent upstairs. As a survivor of 3 abdominal aorta/iliac aneurysms I can relate. Wishing you the best in your recovery.

Re: 2 up with a 12" tom as the smallest

I've heard that too. Sonors are unusual in that the drumhead doesn't hug the shell like most others. Might be part of it. They have almost a timpani type sound.

Re: 2 up with a 12" tom as the smallest

Heads seem like they'd be in the ballpark. I've never had a walnut kit, let alone segmented so I can't comment on how they project compared to maple. My Brooklyns (maple/poplar) don't project...

Re: 5 Inch Deep Snares

Tough to beat for stick response/articulation. For funk and pop, they're the standard. I'm down to one 14x5 at the moment. Black Panther Black Widow Maple. An absolutely incredible snare especially...

Re: 2 up with a 12" tom as the smallest

Don't know the shell thickness of your 10" tom but I use 10-13-16 toms with my Delite kit and that 10x8 barks like a dog. I love the 3" intervals between toms. Delites/Prolites are about the thinnest...

Re: "Jazz Kit" Poll: Yamaha or Gretsch

I would go for a Gretsch Broadkaster if playing jazz. If I wanted a nice sport bike or wave runner, I'd go Yamaha. I've owned both a Stage Custom and Gretsch Catalina maple. I don't have anything...

Re: So, where are they built?..

Sonor's asian lines and Mapex are made in the same KHS factory in China.
Gretsch's asian stuff is made in Taiwan. I'm pretty sure Tama has their own factory in China. Yamaha too.

I presume we're...

Re: Gretsch Drummers - what's the best color/finish?

The guy I bought my Brooklyn set from had a set of Broadkasters in the Satin Copper. They were absolutely beautiful. My Brooklyns are Vintage Creme Oyster but If I could have chosen a finish, the...
