Re: Taking charge of your posters

How tug of war is not a worldwide sport with global audiences and millionaire superstars is beyond me.

Samples used over drums in studio mixes

I've seen a lot of videos recently of sound engineers and producers showing how they mix drums. Most of the time they say that they put samples over the actual drums that have been played. This...

Re: Chris Dave and the Drumhedz

I saw him live at a festival a few years back. Although I appreciated the amazing drumming, I didn't find it particularly enjoyable. Maybe it was just way beyond my level of understanding.

Re: I think the time of the drum cover has passed

Pretty much this. For many people, drum covers are a means to an end, a career in itself. We live in a world now where everyone wants to be noticed. Nobody wants to be the bod at the back keeping...

Re: Your drumming education?

None - just watching, listening, copying, experimenting and creating.

Re: Band wants to use programmed drums on record

Well, I've kind of had the opposite problem. I was happy to produce a demo for my band with the recording gear I have in my bedroom. This meant using synthetic drums, although I would programme...

Re: Who is the best British rock drummer of 2017?

Well as a Gillingham fan, I'll never forget Nicky Weaver because of THAT play-off final.

I don't like how some people on this forum just dismiss current drummers just because they've never heard...

Re: Incredibly Overly Muffled Drums

Well I've never owned a set of expensive drums, but I've watched a ton of videos on a Youtube channel of a drum shop in the Czech Republic, which has a load of no-nonsense unbiased unprocessed demos...

Re: Back in the studio tomorrow, cannot wait

Great stuff, sounds like you had a cracking weekend. Seems like you all left your egos at the door, pulled together, got your heads down and made it work. You must be chuffed and relieved you got it...

Good luck dude. Looking forward to hearing the results and all about the experience.

Re: Why are floor tom legs so long?

I find it's the opposite. I like to have it tilted, which means two legs as high as they can go and one a bit lower. I suppose it depends how high you sit and at what angle you like it.

Re: Here's an observation nobody here wants to hear ;)

For me it's very reassuring. I've only ever had one kit and it wasn't even mine, handed down to me by my brother. Had it for over 20 years. It's still in good nick and I have no reason (or space) to...

Re: Should I be annoyed?

Ok folks, next time any of you do a gig in a relatively informal setting, just tell your lead guitarist that your kid brother/sister/son/daughter's band are playing too and that you have told their...

Re: How to deal with getting kicked out of a band

Please don't get disheartened. For 99.9% of us, it's never an easy ride. Very often it comes down more to tastes and preferences than ability.

Last year I didn't get chosen to be in a band...

Re: The expensive drum stigma....

Well this thread was started a good 4 years before I'd even discovered this site, so I thought I'd have a good trawl through it today.

My only input to it would be that a couple of weeks ago I was...

Re: UK trip part 2: My stay with Andy

Well if Kent is the garden of England, then Medway and Gravesend are the shed and the compost heap. It is very true though that if you go south of there it's really nice. Went for lovely country walk...

Re: UK trip part 2: My stay with Andy

Yep, I think Larry was treated to one of the rather more pleasant spots of the UK, which doesn't give him the full picture. I spent my high school years living in the Medway towns (Gillingham to be...

Re: Off days.

I know that situation well. I find that some days it just takes a while for things to click into action and you need a good long warm up. I find that playing a simple beat repetitively for a good...

Re: Guess what I left at home?!

I did a gig this summer (supplying the kit) where the drummer for the other band (who were actually headlining) showed up with nothing more than a bag of cheap cymbals. After seeing my cymbals, he...

Re: When will the sloppiness end?

Jim, we have been recording ourselves since the beginning and it has been a great help and we have improved. It's just that the mistakes keep coming. There are some mistakes that I'd thought we'd...

Re: When will the sloppiness end?

Thanks for the lengthy replies Drumwild, really appreciate it. It's not really the overall commitment of the band I'm questioning. The other guys are reliable, don't miss practices and show up on...

When will the sloppiness end?

I've been in an originals band for over a year now and while I feel I know the songs pretty well and play them relatively comfortably, the other two guys in the band are still making tons of mistakes...
