Re: To rack or not to rack?

Touring with big kit or always using the same big setup it's a no brainer. Rack is lighter, simpler and faster.

If you use a smaller setup or change it up all the time then individual stands and...

Re: Time of my life drummer

If ever in doubt, it's Purdie. At least that's what he would tell you, I'm sure. :-)

Elitch's and Weckl's stuff is streaming only. Sheet music and play-a-longs on Weckl's site are of course downloadable.

Drumeo's stuff you can download. Everything.

Re: Do guitarists generally dislike rests on drums?

To be fair. In my previous life as mainly a guitar player the drummer was the culprit of the timing issue quite often.

Re: Do guitarists generally dislike rests on drums?

Does not sound like the highest level of musician, but it probably is common.

Re: How do you practice?

If you are new, you should probably have a routine and a plan including all the basics.

The real answer is just that you should practice in a way that actually improves your playing. This will...

Re: Convince me not to buy a Saturn V...

If you care about tone, better drums actually do make you better, not only is their sound potential better, but it will inspire you to play better. It's as much for you and your comfort and enjoyment...

Re: unusual notation

Washington Post. Ah. If I had a "insert currency of choice" for every time I've conducted or played drums on that thing this school year.......

The amateur brass band I'm conducting are quite...

Re: MOST UNIQUE CUSTOM SNARE EVER!!

Cool.

There's a company named Acoutin that also do wood/metal hybrids. They have the metal in the middle, though. I even think you can mix and match yourself using the same mid section.

Re: Drinking beer at a gig

These days the only alcohol I consume is my home made tinctures. On rare occasions liquor serving size or half a glass of wine with meals or a night cap.

No beer.

In the past the rule wold be...

Re: Dying Live Scenes, tale of two gigs

Embarrassed. Why?

Sons of Apollo isn't exactly the biggest gig those guys have.

This stuff is an artistic choice and Mike is on a level where he can probably afford doing whatever he wants...

Re: Have you ever have someone in the audience tells you your playing a song wrong?

All the time.

Drunk people? Not so much.

Uninformed, unevolved, classically trained people with their heads up their butt? Yah.

Re: How did you start getting "loose" on difficult fills?

Well, I think repetition is the short simple answer.

The add on would simply be to be able to recognize what specific movement in something is tripping you up, see the general challenge in that,...

Re: 5 Inch Deep Snares

Almost all of my 10 are 5" except for one 6" and one 4".

The 6" is my main one, but I don't feel it makes that much of a difference on that particular one, really.

Re: How did you start getting "loose" on difficult fills?

That's a wide description and means different things to different people.

It's do, not did.

Really, no matter what I practice it's about an end result, how I wan to sound and the reasons for...

Re: Most useful electronic drum sound

To me, it would be some sort of percussion that's either big and hard to transport or I don't play that well. Hard to day one sound as it would probably be an instrument with more than one sound.

Re: If you could educate the public about one thing concerning drumming/percussion, what would it be

It's a real instrument on the same level as all other instruments and to teach it you should know what you're doing.

Re: Real-life examples of rudiments applied to drumset?

If you look into improvised jazz and fusion stuff it's all there.

It's not necessarily this rudiment to that rudiment, but you play around with it and find stuff you like.

All American Drummer...

Re: Are you glad drumming doesn't have crazy practice tools like golf?

There are tools like these for any activity.

They are useful for some, but in many cases it's individual issues, rehabilitation or refining that just isn't relevant unless you're on a certain...

I can intellectualize things more these days, but I've always...
