Re: To rack or not to rack?

I love racks for comfort and ease of getting everything just right when the kit doesn't move.

For gigging, I always found racks were more of a pain.

If the riser/stage isn't level, or sags,...

Re: Dying Live Scenes, tale of two gigs

As I said in another thread, if not for the members of SOA, I doubt anyone would go see them. As a band, the music isn't bad, but it doesn't stand out as particularly special.

I suspect there is...

Re: When did modern drum head become mainstream?

I have no 1st hand knowledge, but everything I've ever read suggests modern heads were widely accepted quickly.

Re: Get better Andy!

^ This.

Except I've never met him. But we've had numerous conversations outside of just post posting on the forum over the years.

Re: 2 up with a 12" tom as the smallest

I don't know.

I like 10" toms.

I like 14" toms.

The only reason I have a 12" is it just seems a good way to have an in-between sound.

But of course, Larry plays a lot of blues gigs,...

Depends on the music, of course.

But the two that come to mind:

Handclaps

Re: Dave Grohl and RUSH article.

No, not Grohl.

But I can see Alex and Geddy going on tour with Taylor Hawkins. But they wouldn't call it Rush.

Re: If you had a drum tech, would it change your set-up?

Geddy Lee of Rush already did that.

Re: If you had a drum tech, would it change your set-up?

Which touches on my reply.

if you join a pre-established band with an established sound or look, you may want, or may even be required to, to have a set up that fits the vibe/look/sound of the...

Re: If you had a drum tech, would it change your set-up?

For the most part, no, for all the reasons given already. I use whatever the music calls for and no more.

I have enough drums for an enormous setup, but I don't use them all, and I'm not super...

Re: Those of you who use less cymbals...

I don't.

As Bermuda said, I don't think of crash pitches being implemented relative to the pitch of a musical note or section.

Even if you listen to drummers who have a lot of cymbals, such...

Re: Vinnie Paul passed

I won't say I was a big Pantera fan, but I owned many of their albums. But Vinnie Paul was certainly an influence. He really changed the approach to hard rock drumming. He took double bass from "look...

Re: How to get the "Living After Midnight" bass drum sound (British Steel)

If I recall, part of the sound is they recorded the drums in a very large room. It wasn't a proper recording studio, it was the grand entryway of a very large house that Ringo Star once owned.

So...

Re: When the band you're auditioning for,..

Many times.

I've come to realize much of why I was rejected is they don't have their own (bleep) together and rejecting me is just an excuse to cover up their own issues.

In most cases, said...
