Re: Smart Watch and/or Fitbit

I was driving 85mph on the open roads in the Mojave Desert, when my S3 suddenly said, "That was a great 12-minute bike ride!"

On the topic, I've not implemented a smart watch into a routine,...

Re: Do you necessarily like to play the drums to the music you like?

I once joined a band that wrote and performed music that I didn't like. I was twice as old as everybody else.

It was basically ukulele hipster music with baby-like vocals. I even recorded a full...

Re: Are you pigeonholed into a style drummer?

"We like how you play, but you look like Pee-Wee Herman."

Re: Why arenít you better drummers?

I had a labrum tear in early 2014, and then moved to a location where there are no lockouts available. Spent a few years learning finger drumming and taking more formal guitar lessons while healing....

Re: Smart Watch and/or Fitbit

I have a Samsung Gear S3. If I wear it while playing, then I get to my 10,000 steps really quickly.

Re: Sickest Blast Beat Video Ever!

The late Nick Menza used triggers in Megadeth, in order to fill out the sound, even though he was one of the hardest hitting guys around.

He used DDRUM triggers with a DDRUM brain, and the sound...

Re: Do you necessarily like to play the drums to the music you like?

When I started out, I played drums and other instruments to music that I liked. I'd sit with rock and pop songs and learn them. I'd also play some marching drum line thing that I liked.

That...

Re: Do some drummers take direction better than others?

I had an additional thought to add to my own post from a while back.

In my current band, the engineer/producer is also the main writer. He plays drums functionally well, to the point that we've...

Re: Anyone remember who did this solo?

Roy Cooper did some stuff that caught my attention on Elton John's "Here and There" double-live album. He really knows how to project an emotion, as well as command an audience.

Re: Anyone remember who did this solo?

This section, in particular, fits the criteria for it (https://youtu.be/eb_UJ8rQtoA?t=2m39s).

Re: A drum machine now plays actual drums (article)

But does it DJENT?

[I'm still playing drums, too, regardless.]

Re: Sickest Blast Beat Video Ever!

If a drummer uses triggers, and they cannot play the part, the triggers do absolutely nothing to fix anything. Nothing at all.

It's like claiming that a microphone is a way of cheating when you...

Re: Overwhelmed drumming?

This reminded me of when I started my Percussion Arts studies at University, and my first time playing the double string bass with a bow. Sounded like a cow moaning while being eaten by wolves.

It...

Re: I think the time of the drum cover has passed

I thought about this thread yesterday, while talking with my shrink about dealing with my fears associated with starting a business. Someone told me that I should open a record store, and I've been...

Re: Anyone remember who did this solo?

It wasn't Pink Floyd. By the late 70s/early 80s, they were taking crap for "going disco" with "Another Brick in the Wall Part II."

Not sure if it was Peter Frampton, so I'm gonna split the...

Re: Overwhelmed drumming?

When I took formal lessons from 1977 to 1984, I NEVER got to sit behind a kit during a lesson. It was always either the snare or a pad. The drum set was something I did on my own time after doing the...

Most definitely, I second that.

Ignore anyone who says that you're better off by not knowing more.

Re: Overwhelmed drumming?

Whoa, slow down there, buckaroo!

I removed the part about the cheap gear because that doesn't matter. I won't respond to that.

Stop. Step back. Breathe.

Learning music is just like learning...

Re: I think the time of the drum cover has passed

But what about that video of the "drummer who's at the wrong gig?" That's funny. Hur hur.

Drum cover song videos were something I tried about 7-8 years ago. Kept getting copyright strikes from...
