Re: Tee Drums / Alan Tocknell anyone know 'em ?

Now you mention it, when I was at the showroom yesterday, I definitely saw a few black stain shells that were probably in the sizes you mentioned. I remember them because at first glance I wasn't...

Re: Are 13" toms obsolete?

In a 12, 13, 16 tom set up, I've always struggled with the 13...when I tune it to where it sounds good it's too close in pitch to the 12. When I tune it lower, it sounds bad.

12, 14, 16 has...

Re: Tee Drums / Alan Tocknell anyone know 'em ?

I haven't had chance to set it up yet so not the most exciting photos I'm afraid. As well as the badges going chrome, the front head on the kick drum is going to be replaced by a Remo Fiberskyn in a...

Re: Tee Drums / Alan Tocknell anyone know 'em ?

I picked them up from his showroom as I only live about ten minutes away.

It's not quite the end of my journey as he put the wrong heads on and black rectangular badges instead of round chrome...

Re: Tee Drums / Alan Tocknell anyone know 'em ?

Funnily enough, I actually received my kit yesterday (after ordering in August 2013)!!!

He explained to me that there were some problems with Fed-Ex and missing shipments of hardware and also some...

Re: Do drummers lose points for disassembling the moment the show is done?

I do a lot of weddings and corporate events. I often pack away my cymbals, sticks and pedal immediately after the set's done in order to deter some drunk from going up and "having a go" without...

Re: Tee Drums / Alan Tocknell anyone know 'em ?

I live about ten-fifteen minutes from his showroom and know exactly where that address huwmc3 posted is (also about fifteen minute drive).

The more it goes on, the more worried I'm getting. But I...

Re: Tee Drums / Alan Tocknell anyone know 'em ?

I ordered a whole kit from him in August and I'm still waiting :(

Everytime I message (every 2 months or so) he tells me that we're waiting for a fitting to arrive and that it should be done at...

Re: Drum fills covers band question

^^^Correction again: Dexy's Midnight Runners.

As a general rule, I personally prefer to get songs down note for note (or as near as dammit.) Firstly, it's harder to learn to play someone else's...

Re: Drumset sounds

The usual percussion - tambourines, jamblocks, cowbells, etc - but I totally love my Roland SPD-S. That's the "non-traditional" accessory I definitely get the most mileage from.

Re: Has your band ever been told what you can or can't play?

Played a wedding where we were asked not to play Take Me To The River. Turns out the bride's sister had drowned in a river....

About 7 - 8 years ago, I was in a band where we were regularly kicked...

Re: How do you start your show?

We start the set off with our final song and close with our opener. Applause is discouraged.

Re: Foundational Songs For Beginners/intermediate

^^^I think perhaps the title is misleading slightly. My understanding is that they're "foundational" songs that all have transferable skills - once mastered, you'll have a nice rounded vocabulary...

Re: What's the guy in this video doing?

Sticking for what he does at 15 seconds is: rrll RLR.
The first 32nd note double stroke lands on "the and of 3". The doubles are obviously played at a lower dynamic.

Re: First Rehearsal Jitters

I relax and have faith in the fact that my hours of practice leading up to the rehearsal/gig/exam/whatever will see me through. It's not once let me down.

I think it's a good mindset to have. I...

Re: Multi-Band drummers, How do you choose your projects?

1) Will it be fun?
2) Will it be good experience/look good on your resume?
3) Does it pay well?

If you answer 'no' to all three questions, don't take the gig. If the answer to at least one of...

Re: Problem with miking Sonor drums

I reckon it's most likely caused by the engineer failing to clip the mics on then blaming the drums in order to avoid looking bad at his job.

However, what heads do you have on the kit? When I had...

Re: Snare level too loud.

On a lot recordings, especially the sort of music you've referenced, the snare will usually be high in the mix. Solid, pronounced backbeat and all that. Generally speaking, the balance of a recorded...

Re: The fastest way to becoming average?

I agree that it's backwards. Me and the bassist try to keep it as steady as we can while the leader (piano) rushes ahead of us. The poor bass player is left struggling to lock in with the rushing...

Re: The fastest way to becoming average?

They wait for the phone to ring because their number is on the business cards that we give out. Hardly worth taking an extra 230 out of everyone else's pay imo.

It's not the bass player...
