Re: Metal vs. Metal (Snare drums)

Reading this thread reminded me that I have a Tama Bronze 14x6,5 snare for a year and I still haven't tried it the proper way :/ I just assembled it, tried some quiet hits and... Back in the closet....

Re: David Huff

6 years later here are my 2 cents :D
I saw or read an interview where he said he was influenced by Bernard Purdie.
He has a great feel, plays whats right for the song and that's why I like his...

Re: TAMA guys: Is this a bronze or copper snare?

Yeah, it's cool in 4 ways: sound, looks, vintage points and price :D
I'll contact the seller if it's possible to send it to Croatia. Possiblly not, but you never know

Re: TAMA guys: Is this a bronze or copper snare?

BTW, the gravely finish is what I went with since the glossy one would show many of irregularities done by sandblasting because the aluminium began to corrode in some places (but they sandblasted...

Re: TAMA guys: Is this a bronze or copper snare?

Well, here it is finally.
Powdercoated the stuff 8-9 months ago but didn't have the time, screws...
The shell is not powdercoated. You can see the holes I filled by soldering.
I'm still affraid...

Re: Double pedal/Two bass drums

Luckily I've always set my kit symmetrically as if I had 2 BD so I never had any back problems.

Re: Double pedal/Two bass drums

And what about the guys who have 2 BD but play with a double pedal? I just hate that! Sobel, Jarzombek, Castronovo, Jordison... Geeez!

Re: Thoughts on powdercoating a bronze shell

I think it doesn't affect surface badly only if you put protective coat after you 'lemonize' it. I have no proof though, just humble speculations :)

Re: Thoughts on powdercoating a bronze shell

Have you tried with lemon? I recently got Paiste 505/Stambul hats (very old) and tried to clean them with Paiste cleaner but I was affraid of rubbing it too much (since cleaner works kindda like...

Re: Thoughts on powdercoating a bronze shell

I see a tiny scratch above the bolt that's second on the right from strainer :)

BTW considering my snare, pricks from powdercoating shop didn't sandblast the lugs and strainer parts and it shows....

For those of you who haven't seen this yet:

BTW I hate how many people today have two bass drums and play with a double pedal. OK it's easier to do...

Re: Snare and bearing edges

Rolled, yes. But what about milled shells like Tama bell brass or Mapex (I forgot the name. I believe it's Panther) milled from a pipe.

Snare and bearing edges

Hi!
While I made blueprints for my own snare with sharp edges, Gavin Harrison comes in with his signature snare and brings some disturbance in my determination. His snare has rounded edge on batter...

Re: Thoughts on powdercoating a bronze shell

Obviously not too long :/
I have brass hoops so at least they won't get rusty like the steel ones would.

Re: Thoughts on powdercoating a bronze shell

Now that looks awesome, sir! Next the strainers and voila! :)
I just had an idea why I shouldn't powdercoat mine: The previous owner drilled new holes for crappy strainer and butt. I put the...

Re: Thoughts on powdercoating a bronze shell

Yeah, I thought it would be a nice finish I call 'hairline bronze' to get with the sandpaper :)
OK, I'll see if I could get this stuff from hardware shop in neighborhood. Let's hope for the best

Re: Thoughts on powdercoating a bronze shell

And another question: Is this stuff like a clear coat of lacquer or is it just like Paiste cymbal Protector. When you put the Protector you don't see or even feel it's on cymbal. Hope you understand...

Re: Thoughts on powdercoating a bronze shell

Do you think the sound will be affected if I put it on the bearing edges?
What have in ming now is to sandpaper the shell as smooth as possible, maybe even polish it, and then put the stuff you're...

Re: Thoughts on powdercoating a bronze shell

Are there clear coats that will do the job? So you're saying I just spray it or rub it onto the shell and the surface is protected? Will I have to apply this coating again after some time or is it...

Thoughts on powdercoating a bronze shell

Hello!
I recently powdercoated every part of my newly acquired snare, except the shell, in black because it was in poor shape. Chrome pitting, oxidation... You know the story. Anyway, it looks...

Re: Tama Copper Patina

That's a Tama PBZ365. Bronze shell. The throwoff is MCS50A aka. the cam lever. The snare was from the Powermetal series. Now it's in metal series and has MCS70A and B strainer and butt. Got one at...
