Re: My long winded rant about having to play some other dude's kit

Got stuck on one last night. Heads so loose it was like hitting marshmallows. Throne so low your knees were up to your nipples. Snare stand welded in place with the snare up around your collarbone....

Re: Looking for a bright, 'clangy' snare...?

I use a 14x5 Tama hammered bronze snare (with an unmuffled single-ply coated head) that fits that description perfectly.

Re: Acoustics of a Room

In my case I put carpet and throw rugs on the floor and hung carpet padding on the walls. Looks ugly, sounds amazing.

Re: Strange Drum Habits

1. I keep my snare strainer lever on the left, in the 8 o'clock position. According to other drummers this is weird.

2. I won't play with shoes on.

3. I tend to have to go out in front of the...

Re: Drummers turned great Frontmen

Apparently Chris Cornell and Layne Staley were both drummers before deciding to take the microphone.

Re: Practice on Tour????

[QUOTE=Drumsword;446584]Most pro drummers never practice when they tour, they usually end up playing 2 to 3 hours a day anyway with soundchecks, etc.
/QUOTE]

Most, possibly, but not all. In the...

Re: If You Could Be Any Part of a Drum Set What Would It Be?

I guess I'd be the guy in the seat playing everything else.

This sounds like a Barbara Walters question.

Re: General Setup / Positioning on a kit

So it goes once we're set in our ways. I had similar problems with perception of my kit after having it "just right" for years. Nowadays I frequently change my setup and arrangement. It keeps your...

Re: Back with some stories

I'm at the other end of the scale now, playing rock with a jazz kit and 7As. I think it shocks the soundmen more than anyone. They aren't used to someone playing a kit under 100dbs.

Re: MAC User on recording

Don't rely on effects to "make the drums sound better". That's not necessarily what they're for. Shure's website has pointers and instructions for miking and recording a drumset. Mike them optimally,...

Re: new orleans music

This is where the cream of the crop of N.O. musicians are, whether in a club or on the street. Some of the best musicianship in America.

Re: Acoustic phenomina

I had similar issues with a 10, 12, 16 configuration. I ended up getting a 14" tom and suddenly I could tune everything in a range to evoke the proper resonance from each drum.

If you have a problem with cramping, it's not the soda.

Re: sound and feel over chops and flash

It all comes down to knowing when you should be comping, which is most of the time in modern popular music. Help the band sound good, bottom line.

Re: Stick Throwing (Accidental....)

Not surprisingly that hasn't happened, but I haven't had any gigs inside high school band rooms. I suppose I would have had a more realistic lesson if someone hurled beer bottles at my head while...

Re: Stick Throwing (Accidental....)

Way back in high school my music teacher used to sneak up behind the drummers while they were playing and try to knock our sticks out of or hands. It used to tick me off beyond belief at the time....

Re: Japanese Drums used in the sixties, who knew?

Introduced in 1957, the first Remo Ambassador heads were two ply (7.5 and 3 mil). Remo is currently making an anniversary edition of this head.

Re: Strange Drum Habits

I always wear dark sunglasses when playing a gig.

I have a few forms synesthesia, and certain passages or songs cause me to have the appearance of "spacing out" during a performance, and...

Re: 15x13 toms . . .

I have one as the lowest tom on my custom kit.

Sounds pretty much like a 14" mounted tom on a fusion kit.

Re: Save Your Cymbals.....Call a Plumber!!!

You know, if you're going to pour strong acids or bases in your drain pipes it's highly advisable to place a bowl upside down over the drain so that the fumes remain relatively contained.

Re: Help! some self doubt going on
