Put a peice of moongel on the batter head.
(Ok, that doesent really fix the problem, but itll tide you over till someone who knows how to tune drums helps you.)

My tip would be to lpay along with songs that have a lot of rimshot in them, at different tempos and different genres.

I think they are good drums. They maybe lack a little warmth but they dont saoud bad at all. Ive had no problems with the hardware at all. And the snare is great, really good for its price range.
