Re: How do I get this weird sound? Simon and Garfunkel's "The Boxer"

Yeah! I had no idea that was a harmonica until I started learning the tune. One of my bandmates told me it was definitely harmonica, I had assumed it was a baritone sax or two. I have never seen a...

Re: How do I get this weird sound? Simon and Garfunkel's "The Boxer"

Thanks for the recommendation Bermuda! I had been trying to scrimp and save for that SPD-sx for a while, but I think you're right and it's just more than I need. I was interested in it for the...

Re: The false perception of Luan

I play a C&C PD1, which is 7-ply luan. The kit is amazing, in both sound and appearance. I would have had a different opinion before I started playing this kit, but in the future I would hesitate to...

Re: How do I get this weird sound? Simon and Garfunkel's "The Boxer"

Wow, great suggestions, all! Thank you!

Thank you, bermuda, for doing the work for me! I am going to try and come up with a sampler pad in time for this show. I'm doing another the week before...

How do I get this weird sound? Simon and Garfunkel's "The Boxer"

I'm playing drums for a one-off Simon and Garfunkel tribute show next month, and I'm trying to get the sounds as close as possible to the recordings.

One problem I've come across is the sort of...

Re: On the Road

I was on tour last summer, and "Blurred Lines" just kept coming on the radio. Every 20-40 minutes we would be in a new broadcast area or something, and we would hear that tell-tale snare and cowbell....

Re: I don't know whether to take this tour or not

I think it's one of the biggest lessons you have to learn as a gigging musician, involved in multiple projects, is how to find balance between music and the rest of your life. The lines get pretty...

Re: Who Are The Most Melodic Drummers?

I agree with everyone so far, especially that Max Roach solo Numberless.

Here's something I stumbled across recently that comes to mind:

Re: SJC Drums

Drum Center of Portsmouth sells SJC drums, and they post videos of just about everything in their store. Maybe you can look through their inventory online and check out some vids. Also, Shane the...

Re: LOCAL BANDS THREAD

Here is one of my favorite local bands in Portland, ME. The drums are live, not programmed, FYI.

Re: Bozzio's wedding kit

Wow, that was just so cool! I'm going to have to watch it a couple more times just to take in all the little tidbits he throws out there, from the music stand to the beaters, and I want to take a...

Re: Thinking about downsizing

I'm late to the party, but I've recently started downsizing for the same reasons. I have a 12-14-14x20 kit, with new soft cases, and a hardware bag instead of a trap case. Additionally, I've been...

Re: Stolen Drums, a long, frustrating story

So sorry to hear that, man. I know how you feel, and I very easily could have been in the same boat. I just got lucky.

The police are continuing to investigate. They have tracked down the person...

Re: Stolen Drums, a long, frustrating story

So I did it, I bought them back. Right now I'm not too happy about the money, it being the holidays, but I think pretty soon that will give way to just being ecstatic to have my drums back (probably...

Re: Stolen Drums, a long, frustrating story

M thought exactly, but they don't serialize these drums because they make too many of them. The best the C&C sales person (named Jesse, who was super helpful) can show is that I bought the same kit,...

Re: "I Shall be Released" - The Band

I think you're right about the snare, that's cool!

It sounds to me like it might be something other than a stick on the hihat, though. If you assume he's playing with his finger on the snare, a...

Stolen Drums, a long, frustrating story

This is still hard to recount, but here goes…

Last week my brand new C&C drums were stolen. I left them in my van at work while I carpooled to rehearsal, and when I got back three hours later a...

Re: C and C Custom Drums

I pay C&C now, I love my kit. I play a lot of low-volume gigs, and the drums seem to open up more readily at lower volumes. Also, I find them very easy and quick to tune. They look just gorgeous, too.
