Re: DW DRUMS - thoughts?

I've already heard dw and renown drums next to each other with the same heads, and the dw had clearly more resonanse and tone to it. If I had to choose between dw or renown, I would go for dw.

I actually think he's a great educater...also for kids.

Because he likes to introduce all the ways of playing...and does not stupiditly say that or that grip is the best, etc.
I also think, that...

Re: VIDEO : Great drumsolo by Mr Simon Phillips!

Ok, Dennis Chamers did THE SAME THING on a Zildjiandays-show.

He also drunk some water while he was playing a double basspattern, and then whiped his face off with a towel, and then looked at his...

Re: Anybody else just NOT have double bass down?

I've heard that there is one pedal witch doen't have this problem and that's an double Axis pedal. It seems the 2 pedals have the same feeling and approach, in stead of the left pedal(feel) beeing...

Re: The legendary Steve Gadd.

Gadd can play the simplest thing with a feeling no one else can. He can make of a simple paraddidle a giant and geniouse groove.

Listen to the silence moments in the zildjian days video. He makes...

Re: Mike Pourtnoy

Mike Portnoy is for me the perfect drummer for Dream Theater. I love their music. For me it's orgasmic music.

BUT: I don't like Mike in an other context. (for e.g. Yellow Matter Custard - plays...

Re: Traditional vs. Matched Grips

I try to use both, but technically I'm better in mached. Sometimes it feels better to play traditional, sometimes mached, depending on the situation.

But I still believe you can exerciese both...

Re: Big kit = small Big kit = big ____

I think it's just a trend. In the eighty's the gigantic kits were in with big toms (for e.g. van halen), now small fusion kits are in. You even see Lars Ulrich lpaying with a smaller drum.

I also do that. I sometimes put my earplugs and then put above some headphones. But I don't know if it's that good. Putting headphones creates a different kinda effect. The music is softer, but the...

Re: Dave Weckl

I can understand that Browne and Frank Gambale are highly regarded musicians. But I believe there is one reason for it: they all have a unbelieveble technique. But that doesn't say a thing about the...

I must agree with you speakig of Steve Smith. He's a hell of a drummer but his band Vital Information really sucks. Totally non-musical. But Colaiuta is a differet thing. for e.g. he recorded...

Try all the big brands.

Certainly try Gretsch. I also heard Noble and Cooley snares sound crazy!
