Re: Picking the right size for new drums - Mapex Saturn IV

I'd go with standard sizes. They are standard for a reason..
Look through craigslist or ebay...see the ads featuring 'concert toms', 'deep toms', etc. Each is a snapshot of a period in drum history....

Re: The social stigma attached to Metal...

I just went to my first metal show in a long while a few weeks ago. As I Lay Dying with The devil Wears Prada. My 16 year old son wanted to go..it was his first concert. Good stuff! I'm 47 now. I...

Re: Songs that are recognizable just by the beat

Bullet with Butterfly Wings by Smashing Pumpkins
Hot for Teacher..Van Halen
Where Eagles Dare..Iron Maiden

Re: what was the first songs you learned on drums?

That song by Greg Kihn.."They don't write 'em" when I was 15.

Then after a long time away.."Better man" by Pearl Jam.

Re: What is classified as professional gear?

I don't exactly know, but I'd agree with some of the others by saying if you make it sound good, and can travel around with it and it does not fall apart, then it's pro enough.

As an aside..We had...

Great drummer jokes

We've all heard some I'm sure. My favorite:

How can you tell if the stage is level?
..The drool is coming out both sides of the drummers mouth!

Re: Removing outer wraps and staining the wood.

I guess it'd be 'virgin' bass. No tom mounting hardware on top.

Removing outer wraps and staining the wood.

I have a birch kit, and I've always been curious if it would look good as natural stained wood shells. Any experience with something like this?

Ever see a 'big time' drummer before they were famous? Tell us about it!

Back in '81 or '82, I was just a 15 year old punk and I went to go visit my brother at college for a weekend. He found me an ID, and off to the local bar we went. The band playing was pretty good,...

Re: Tell me when you KNEW you were getting good.

Not rude at all, friend! I agree, and the comment was tounge-in-cheek. I don't really know any other drummers personally at this point in my life!
