Re: Shell Pack with 20" Bass Drum

Here is a Pearl BRX (birch shells), 20x16, 15x13, 12x8, brand new for $899. I know that's more than your budget, but it's a good deal and those are great sizes for all styles.

Re: so i found this set on ebay...

Whoever won this got themselves a great deal. If it was me I'd search e-bay for a matching 16" floor.

Re: "Retro Pearl" 3 piece? Worth it?

Or even "strangely".

Strangely enough, there seems to be no end to these examples.

Re: Unix Bubinga kit (yes! another one)

That's such amazing craftsmanship. I would love just a third of that kit.

What heads are those?

Re: "Retro Pearl" 3 piece? Worth it?

Funnily enough, it is a perfectly good word. It either describes an unlikely situation - one that would not normally occur (as in this case) - or it is used as an adverb to describe something that...

Re: "Retro Pearl" 3 piece? Worth it?

That's a great player's kit and would make an excellent gig set. I played on one of those old Pearl Birch kits once and it was solid, to say the least. Pity about the missing floor tom lugs, but if...

Re: Old yammies / New digs

Hey Abe, nice drums and a very nice space. Your new camera appears to flip the image left to right though - I'd have it checked out. :) You seem to have EC2's on your rack toms and (I'm guessing)...

Re: Are they the drums you really want?

I'd go for a stave kit from Lignum drums in Scandinavian birch with their wood hoops in natural (unstained) finish.

My ideal sizes would be 22x16, 10x8, 13x9, 16x14 with a 14x6 main snare and a...

Re: Unix Stave Snare Drums

Both these drums (posted above) are beautiful. I can't decide which one I like better. What wood types are they? And what are their dimensions (including shell thickness)?
Thanks.

Re: Virgil Donati

His clinic last night was out of this world. I agree that his complex time signature work is not stuff I'll go out and buy or choose to listen to, but to see it in action is something else. I also...

Re: Virgil Donati

Virgil is coming to South Africa next month for a drum clinic. Should be pretty damn good. Can't wait.

Re: Pearl Export

Another thing you have to know about threads involving Pearl Exports here on DW is that it's become trendy to knock them. Normally by people who have little experience with them. The criticism has...

Re: JoJo Mayer: Little Video

Hah, Jojo is awesome. He came to South Africa for a drum clinic a few weeks ago and it was a humbling experience. Seems like a real down-to-earth guy too.

Re: Jojo Mayer

Went to see Jojo at a drum clinic here in Cape Town last night. We never get this kind of thing, so seeing him in an awesome venue (I-max movie theatre with steep sloping seating) was a real treat.

Re: Meg White - Drum set ?

I saw the "hardest button" video and remembered thinking that they probably had to use loads of different kits as opposed to some kind of post-production duplication effect. Wonder what happened to...

Re: favorite songs to play along with

I like to put on any Supergrass album and jam along to the whole thing. "In it for the money" really rocks - specially the opening 2 or 3 tracks. "Life on other planets" gets the big two thumbs up...
